Be prepared to roll up your sleeves Sept. 22 &045; the Save A Life Tour is coming to town.

According to Helen Carroll, account manager with the American Red Cross blood services, the tour began in May in Indianapolis and Universal Studios and has been jig-jagging the country ever since. It will culminate in Washington, D.C., in November.

But before then it’ll make a stop at the Selma Mall.

The tour is more than a traveling blood drive, it’s also a museum that holds &uot;everything you can imagine,&uot; Carroll said.

Four vehicles, a bus, tow vehicle and trailer, equipment van and passenger van, will roll into town Sept. 21 and open for business Sept. 22. Carroll said the bus is a &uot;teach-in.&uot; The back portion of the bus is a classroom where people can listen to a class-like presentation. All classes are invited, Carroll said, and the ones that can’t make it will receive materials allowing teachers to have their own presentations.

The tow vehicle and trailer is a mobile museum with different zones. Zone One has displays explaining the Red Cross’ need for blood. Zone Two holds information on blood and blood products. Visitors can tour the mobile museum as staff members answer questions. &uot;We’re trying to educate people on why you should donate and how to donate,&uot; Carroll said.

She added that the Red Cross hopes to gain an additional 3 million new donors because of the Save A Life Tour.

In Selma, the tour kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 22. Scheduled speakers at the opening ceremony include Mayor James Perkins Jr. and Executive Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce Claire Twardy. The museum and classes will last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The tour isn’t limited to museums and classes, though. It also hosts a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. at Selma Mall.

All donors will receive a T-shirt and refreshments.

The event is sponsored by the Selma Mall, Pepsi and the Omegi Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
