There will be no more waiting in long lines or filling out endless amounts of paperwork this year for business taxpayers preparing to file their tax returns.

The Alabama Department of Revenue unveiled a new paperless system this week that gives business taxpayers the option of filing their taxes through the Internet or by telephone.

The new system becomes mandatory on Oct. 1.

State Revenue Commis-sioner Dwight Carlisle said using the Internet to file taxes is more efficient than sending in paper forms.

ADOR has been offering a paperless filling method for several years, but this is the first time taxpayers will be able to use it without paying a hefty fee.

Carlisle said with the new filing system becoming mandatory on Oct. 1, there will be no service charges and no long-distance calling fees to those who prefer to file by telephone.

The paperless system will be used for only the most commonly filed tax returns &045; including state sales tax, lodging tax, seller’s use tax, consumer’s use tax, and rental tax returns &045; as well as local tax returns for state-administered city and county sales.

The ADOR commissioner says it may take a little time for taxpayers to learn the filling system, but it will make paying taxes a lot easier.

The ADOR feels confident the website is secure and currently protected against viruses and hackers.
