OK, this isn’t on that level yet.

When Faith Academy squares off with the Morgan Academy Senators Friday night, it will be a meeting of two of the winningest coaches in AISA and Morgan history.

Between Faith coach Robbie James and Morgan coach Robert Gartman there have 13 AISA state titles, four each at Morgan and two very good football teams.

Gartman coached seven years at Morgan, winning four state titles.

A year after he left the Senators, James arrived and won four more.

Then James left and Gartman returned two years ago.

Now Gartman has his Senators ready to compete for a state title again.

James and his Faith team stand in the way.

Faith is the first team in a three-week gauntlet that will test the mettle of the Senators.

Even if we beat Faith this week we can’t celebrate too long because we’ve got to turnaround and play Fort Dale the next week.&uot;

After Fort Dale, the Senators will host Macon-East, a team that Gartman says is a bigger rival than Faith.

Morgan headmaster Dr. Christopher deBuzna doesn’t see much to the rivalry talk.

deBuzna went on to praise both coaches.

When James left after the 2000 championship, the Senators fell from their championship level.

Gartman returned to turn the team around.

In his third year Gartman appears to have achieved that goal.

While the seniors on this season’s team played for James’ last championship squad in 2000, Gartman said they haven’t shown any extra motivation.

If the 2003 season is going to be one to remember for Gartman and his kids, it starts this week.
