In the first playoff appearance in franchise history, the Selma Toros will face the Calhoun Cubs in a best of five series that could last three weekends.

The Toros will play at Calhoun on Saturday and host the Cubs at Bloch Park at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The teams will then take five days off before playing at Calhoun on Saturday, August 16. Game four will be on Sunday, August 17, in Selma if necessary.

The draw benefits Selma, according to Anderson.

The teams didn’t play in the regular season because of rain and Anderson said Calhoun’s worried.

But, Anderson noted, the Cubs have plenty of talent.

Their roster has several college players, just like the Toros.

One benefit for the Toros is their big power hitter, Joe Rudolph.

According to Anderson, Calhoun has a small home ball park which could allow Rudolph to have a big series.

Anderson also said he’d prefer to hold staff ace Jamil Knight until Sunday’s home game, giving the pitcher the bigger park to work with.

With local players from Concordia and Wallace State as well as other schools, Anderson hopes the community will come out to Bloch Park and support the Toros.
