Looking for goat meat? How about fried rabbit? If so, Saturday is your lucky day.

The Innovation Centre, 4344 Alabama Hwy 41, will host the Alabama Agricultural Land Grant Alliance Black Belt Expo Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free event, sponsored by DownSouth Foods, Tuskegee University, Alabama A&M University and Auburn University, will give farmers a chance to showcase their products.

It will also give area residents the opportunity to learn about subjects ranging from goat chops to making quilts.

Arthur Jackson, operator of DownSouth Foods, said tents will be set up allowing farmers and others to display their goods. In one tent, presenters will demonstrate how free-range chickens can be raised, why they should be eaten and reasons why they’re good for you. Another tent will show how vegetables can be grown without pesticides.

But the expo isn’t just limited to food. Jackson said a tent will be set aside to teach how goats can be used to clean up pastures.

One tent will feature quilt making and have people on-site explaining how quilts are made. An arts and crafts tent will show how goat’s milk can be turned into soap.

Jackson said DownSouth Foods would be showcasing ground goats including goat chops, goat ribs and goat hindquarters. People will get a chance to sample both goat and rabbit and to purchase the meat as well.

Visitors will also hear the music of Willie King while strolling past the tents and food vendors at the expo.
