Six runs in the fifth inning helped the Selma 13-year-old All-Stars advance in the District Tournament Saturday.

North Clark rallied with four runs in the seventh, but it was too little, too late as Selma took the 7-5 win.

Lead-off hitter Blake Robinson had a double, a single and two runs scored for Selma.

Brad Averitt added a double and a single.

Clint Maroney had double, two walks and a run scored.

TeRay Mitchell doubled and scored to help his own cause.

He went the distance on the mound. He allowed five hits and struck out six hitters.

“He’s a pretty strong kid,” coach Randall Averitt said of Mitchell.

James Bennett singled and scored.

Patrick Bonner walked and scored.

The game was a pitcher’s duel early.

North Clark got two runners on base with a pair of walks, but both were stranded.

Robinson led off for Selma and worked a walk.

After a strikeout, Maroney walked but both runners were stranded.

A walk allowed Steven Etheredge on base with no outs for North Clark in the top of the second.

The runner advanced to third but was stranded.

Bennett got the game’s first hit in the bottom of the second.

He singled and moved to second but was stranded.

North Clark got on the board in the third.

Taylor Becton was plunked and after a strikeout, Hunter Cross singled.

Becton, who had stolen second, scored on the hit.

Selma waited little time to respond.

Robinson led off with a single and moved over on Averitt’s ground out. Maroney’s double scored the run and tied the game.

The game stayed scoreless until the top of the fifth.

Both runners eventually scored, stealing their way home.

Leading 7-1, Selma’s lead seemed safe.

After a strikeout Becton singled and Joey Kidd walked.

After a pop out, Scotty Brothers singled and Etheredge walked.

A single moved Etheredge to third. A fly ball to third ended the game and allowed Selma to advance.
