Selma earns berth in State playoffs

The Selma 13-year-old All-Stars advanced to State Tournament in Boaz with a 12-5 win over North Clark Sunday afternoon in District play.
Brad Averitt swung the big lumber for Selma.
He singled twice, doubled and homered. TeRay Mitchell scored twice on a trio of singles.
Selma took the lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Justin Brown was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Jeremy Phillips’ single.
Clint Maroney pitched the first four innings for Selma and Jacoby Carter threw the final three.
Maroney allowed no runs and struck out five batters.
Carter struck out two hitters and earned the save.
Paul Noble walked and stole second for North Clark in the top of the third, but he was picked off on the base paths. The next two batters struck out.
Selma took control with three runs in the third inning.
Averitt singled and Clint Maroney walked.
Mitchell singled home a run.
After a pair of outs, Jacoby Carter singled.
North Clark got on the board in the fourth.
Joey Kidd walked and came around to score.
Selma plated two more in the fourth.
Averitt doubled and Maroney walked.
Mitchell’s single help more runs score for Selma.
North Clark cut the lead to 6-4 with three runs ion the fifth.
Tanner Tucker, Paul Noble and Steven Etheredge all scored for North Clarke.
With the lead down to two runs, Selma calmly responded in the bottom of the inning.
Carter led off with a walk.
After a strikeout, Phillips singled.
Blake Robinson followed with a single and Averitt cleared the bases with a blast over the fence.
Selma added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
Mitchell and James Bennett each singled, then scored on Carter’s single.
Trailing 12-4, North Clark plated a run in the seventh but it wasn’t enough and Selma advanced to State Tournament play.
Selma will play Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m. in Boaz.
