A murder suspect brought into custody Friday has been denied bond.

David Lee Woods, 42, was denied bond by Dallas County District Court Judge Nathaniel Walker Monday.

Woods is charged with the murder of his aunt, Willie Mae Woods, 88, in a Friday afternoon shooting on Ikerman Alley. Woods also faces charges of escape first degree and assault second degree.

According to Dallas County Assistant District Attorney Mitzi Johnson-Theodoro, Selma Police Department Lt. Susan Smith testified at Monday’s bond hearing that Woods was walking outside his Abbot Avenue residence Thursday night screaming about a fat man in his chimney. Johnson-Theodoro also said Woods claimed his aunt wasn’t dead.

According to Selma Police Department Lt. David Evans, the shooting occurred at 4:08 p.m. Friday. Law enforcement authorities found Willie Mae Woods in Ikerman Alley just minutes after Woods allegedly shot her with a shotgun.

Evans added that the police department was familiar with Woods.

After authorities apprehended Woods &045;&045; who was holding a shotgun at the time &045;&045; Willie Mae Woods was pronounced dead and her body transported to a local funeral home. Woods was brought to police headquarters, where he was held until detectives returned from the scene to complete the booking process.

That’s when Woods allegedly attempted to escape, Evans said.

When officers opened the cell door, Woods allegedly ran past them, assaulting one and running into another in the process.

Evans also said property was damaged during the incident.

Woods left his cell and entered the booking area, but Evans said both areas were secure. &uot;There was no way he could have made it out of the area,&uot; he added.

Woods is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail.
