Calvert charges to the front

After shooting an opening round 77, Clint Calvert turned things around Wednesday in the 2003 Dixie Junior Invitational.

Calvert scorched the rain-soaked Selma Country Club track for a 4-under round of 68. He moved into first place in the 17- and 18-year-old division.

Calvert’s two day total of 145 leaves him at 1-over for the tournament and three strokes behind the overall leader with a day left in the tourney.

After shooting a 2-under round Tuesday, Roger Caffey scored an even par round of 72 on Wednesday.

He has a three-stroke lead overall and a five stroke lead in the 15- and 16-year-old division.

While Calvert chases Caffey, he has several players nipping at his heels.

Nathan Villaume, Jordy Hayden, Brett Willis and Jon Oswalt are all three strokes back of Calvert with a two-round score of 148.

In 15- and 16-year old play, Josh Gamble and Ryan Smith are tied for second with a two-day total of 147. Jay Harris is six strokes back.

Evan Widman moved into contention with a

2-under round of 70 on Wednes-day.

He has a two day score of 149.

In the 10-and-under division, Jack Brown leads with a nine-hole round of 41.

Benjiman Andrews and Paul Ehrhardt are both two strokes back.

In the 11- and 12-year-old division, Paul McClure leads with a one-day total of 79.

Coal Brown and Zach Brownell are both within striking distance.

In the 13- and 14-year-old division, Bradley Johnson shot 1-under par to take a commanding lead.

Taylor Beebe and Matt Jones are tied for second. They trail by seven strokes.
