Charles Smith Chisolm

Charles Smith Chisolm, born in Selma, Sept. 10, 1916, died June 8 in Chattanooga, Tenn. He is the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. James Satterfield Chisolm.

Mr. Chisolm was preceded in death by brothers John Grier Chisolm and James S. Chisolm, Jr. He attended schools in Selma and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He obtained a master’s degree in chemical engineering at Auburn and attended metallurgical classes at Birmingham Southern and the University of Alabama.

He served in the U.S. Army artillery in World War II and was discharged as a Lt. Colonel. Following a 35-year career at Wheland Company (North American Royalties), he retired and was associated with Fidelity Trust Company in commercial real estate. He had farming and timber interests in Selma and Alberta, Ala.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga where he served as Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a long-standing elder and achieved elder emeritus status in May 2003.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Gilbert Chisolm; children Betsy and Toby Silberman, John and Sarah Chisolm, Catherine and Mel Gilmer; grandchildren Catherine Silberman, Pat Silberman, Lee and Rebecca Chisolm, Park and Sara Chisolm, Mattie Chisolm, Elizabeth Gilmer, Cate Gilmer, Jay Gilmer, Liz and Patrick Cummings, Ryan and Jon Graham and Edward Walker, as well as great grandchild Charles Staples Chisolm. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Services will be at First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga tomorrow at 11 a.m. with visitation at the church an hour before the service. A private burial will follow.

Pauline Marie Morgan

Pauline Marie Morgan, 87, of Perry County, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m., Monday, June 9, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Wyatt officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include sons James (Debbie) Morgan of Selma and Charles (Carol) Morgan of Georgia; daughter Frances Phillips; grandchildren Lisa Morgan, Dawn Eaton, Kelly Morgan, Allen Morgan, Mitch Raines, Mike Raines; great-grandchildren Austin Eaton and Madison Morgan and numerous nieces and nephews.
