A five-month undercover operation involving a task force of local, county and state law enforcement personnel has resulted in the arrest of nine suspected drug dealers.

More indictments and arrests, and possible federal charges, are expected to be made as the investigation continues.

The narcotics divisions with the Selma Police Department, Alabama Bureau of Investigation and Dallas County Sheriff’s Department began the operation in January.

According to a press release issued by Selma police, the agencies started making arrests on May 30 and seized a total of $3,600 worth of drugs.

Police also seized $448 in currency, one weapon and five vehicles.

The nine suspects, all males between the ages of 19 to 29, have been sent to the Dallas County Jail on charges of unlawful distribution of controlled substances.

The suspects are Calvin Hatcher, 26; Kourtney L. Jones, 19; Willie Posey, 21; Lonnie Williams, 26; Mark Williams, 29; David Gurrola, 24; Christopher Posey, 22; Ricky D. Walker, 20; and Charles Bailey, 21.

Bonds in the case have been set at between $5,000 and $20,000 for each suspect.

Lt. David Evans, public information officer for the Selma Police Department, said the arrests serve as a fine example of interagency cooperation.

“These agencies did a good job working together to get drugs and drug dealers off the streets,” Evans said.
