Ellie R. Reese

Ellie R. Reese, 100, of Lauderhill, Fla., formerly of Selma, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at her home.

Services will be held at noon Tuesday, June 3, at Calvary M.B. Church with the Rev. C.A. Lett officiating. Burial will follow in Faielawn Memory Garden with J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her son, the Rev. F.D. (Alline) Reese of Selma; daughter Annie R. Ratliff of Lauderhill, Fla; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was born in College Park, Ga. and later moved to Montgomery, where she graduated from Alabama State Teachers College. She was an educator for 40 years, beginning in the nursery school at Selma University. She taught for many years at Mollette Bend Elementary School and Beantley High School before retiring from the Dallas County School System.

She was a former member of Green Street Baptist Church and later Calvary M.B. Church where she served faithfully until moving to Florida.

Public viewing will be held at 11 a.m. until noon at the church. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Calvary M.B. Church and Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Ernestine Owen Bender Harrison

Ernestine Owen Bender Harrison, 78, of Valley Grande, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m., Monday, June 2, in Pineview Memory Gardens with Brother Rover Wanger officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her children, Ardith Cruce of Selma, Shelia Thompson of Panama City, Fla., Sharon (Bill) Newsome of Selma, Joe Dudley Harrison III of Panama City, Fla and Althea (Larry) Chance of Valley Grande; grandchildren Jeffery Cruce, Shannon (Kendell) Jones, Kyle Thompson, Kier Thompson, Chadwick Chance and Courtney Chance; great-grandchildren Jacob Thompson, Matthew Thompson and Dyllan Thompson and sister Barbara Boley.

She was preceded in death by grandson Jeremy Owen Cruce.

Active pallbearers will be Joe Bargainer, Sam Bargainer Jr., Larry Chance and Bill Newsome.

Artie Dee Englebert Barrett

Artie Dee Englebert Barrett, 77, of Marion, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at Kirk Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes directing.

Survivors include her son, Steve Barrett Jr. or Verbena; daughter Sherry B. Aultman of Suttle; brothers Fred Englebert of Woodstock and Eugene Englebert from California; sister Linda Raye Moses of Bessemer; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers include Chris Aultman, J.J. McLean, Shane Stovall, Jason Miller, S.B. Pope and Tim Tucker.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 2, at Kirk Funeral Home.
