Blood donors interested in helping a burn victim now have a second chance.

A blood drive for Valley Grande Elementary Student Christopher Moore will be held at Northside Baptist Church today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Christopher, 12, received serious burns in an April 26 accident. Northside Baptist Church &045;&045; Christopher’s church &045;&045; wanted to help and held an initial blood drive May 1.

A number of people, though, didn’t get a chance to donate May 2. According to Carroll, today they get another chance.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and not have donated blood in the past 56 days. Those with diabetes and high blood pressure are still candidates if their conditions are kept under control.

Christopher is currently at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and making progress.

A large card for Christopher will be at the blood drive, and donors will have the chance to sign it.

Today’s blood drive honors Christopher and helps those with needs across Alabama. Blood donated isn’t just limited to the injured, but is also used to aid leukemia and sickle cell anemia patients.

Accidents involving boating and fishing activities are on the rise due to the seasonal change, Carroll said. The Memorial Day weekend was the first chance for some people to engage in boating and fishing activities this year. With outdoor activities come accidents and the need for blood.
