Warren Hinson’s piercing blue eyes shimmer with enthusiasm when the conversation turns to her favorite topic &045;&045; Selma, Ala.

Hinson, 43 &045;&045; who’s currently the Selma Police Department public information officer &045;&045; has worked for the city of Selma since 1996. Before that, she spent a long tour of duty as secretary to former Selma Mayor Joe Smitherman, whom she remembers with fondness and respect.

For Hinson, who’s lived in the area her whole life,

those accolades describe Selma, as well.

Hinson &045;&045; a single mom to her 12-year-old daughter Mary Claire Powell &045;&045; keeps her life in focus and her hands and mind busy. She hasn’t a choice, really.

Selma does likewise, Hinson says. From historic buildings to

spring flowers to creeks and woods; the area has it all, she maintains.

Hinson, who graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in communications and spent some time working for the Selma Times-Journal, predicts a positive future for Selma. She has some suggestions to help the city along …

And much of that, she says, stems from Selma’s citizens who helped forge the city she adores.
