The Selma Office of Planning and Development is sponsoring an incentives workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center.

The workshop, which is being co-sponsored by the Downtown Selma Association, is designed to provide information about the wide array of programs intended to encourage property owners, businesses and developers to invest in Selma.

Participants include the Alabama Historic Commission, Alabama Housing Finance Authority, Federal Home Loan Bank, Delta Regional Authority, and Alabama Renewal Community.

The workshop will feature programs geared toward private homeowners as well as business owners.

The incentives to be discussed at the workshop range from low-interest loans to outright tax credits. Because the incentives are subject to change, given the vagaries of the tax code, the workshop will also serve to keep attendees abreast of the latest developments.

She added that the workshop has attracted a good cross-section of interested people in the community.
