Michael J. Arban Jr.

Michael J. Arban Jr., 69, of Selma, died Monday, March 31, 2003 at his home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Browning Arban; daughters, Tracy Arban Wiedmeyer, Pamela and Arban Morgan; son-in-law, Phillip Roger Wiedmeyer; granddaughters, Morgan Elizabeth Wiedmeyer and Lauren Wiedmeyer; and randson, Brian Wiedmeyer.

Active pallbearers are Sol Tepper, John W. Jones, Clyde “Duck” Weir, Lee Hollaaday, Dawson Burton, Thomas “Pap” Morris, Al Schober and Rick Schober.

Honorary pallbearers are Howell Regan, Dr. Daniel Clower, Billy C. Bond, Glenn “Boots” Wilson, John Teague, Stewart Burkhalter, Chuck Speir, Don Bacon, Hugh Parkins, Dr. Bracy Cross, Bill Rushton, Robert Cleckler Jr., Chuck Greer, Jack Camp, Dr. Ivan Smith and Ronnie Thead.

Rosary will be held from 6-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, at Lawrence Funeral Home, followed by

Family visitation from 6:30-8 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center c/o Dr. Saif’s Research, 1530 3rd Avenue S.W. WTI 262, Birmingham, AL 35294 or Cahaba Hospice.

Mr. Arban worked at Bush Hog, Inc., prior to serving as director of Wallace Community College of Selma and president of N.F. Nunnelley State Technical College in Childersburg.

Charlie Hendrix Nichols

Charlie Hendrix Nichols, 96, of Marion, died Sunday, March 30, at a Selma hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday April 2, at Chapel of Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion with the Rev. James L. Waters Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.

Survivors include his wife, Lucile Williams Nichols of Marion; one son, Charles K. (Angie) Land of Brookport, Ill.; daughters, Faye (Manly) Breland of Seneca, SC, Betty (Carl) Warren of El Paso, Texas, Carol (Robert) Dunkin of Marion and Kim (Mike) Simkins of Tyler; three brothers, Wilson Nichols of Selma, Ralph Nichols and Bruce Nichols both of Marion; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Kirkland Sanders Jr.

Kirkland Sanders Jr., 77, died Saturday, March 29, 2003 at a veteran hospital in Tuscaloosa.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J. H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

Viola Martin

Viola Martin, 66, of Selma, died Sunday, March 30, 2003 at a local hospital.

Arthur Lee Smith Sr.

Arthur Lee Smith Sr., 50, of Selma, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at a local hospital.

Services were held at 12 noon Thursday, March 27, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Oak Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Pinkie Smith; one son, Arthur Smith; one daughter, Lekeshia Smith; four brothers, David Smith, Fred Smith, Bill Smith and L.C. Smith; two grandchildren; five brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers were co-workers of the City of Selma.
