There are many bright and outstanding seniors in the 2003 graduating class at Selma High School, but a few of them tend to stand out from the rest.

Tiffany Brown and Amber Anderson are just two examples of students who have shown academic excellence while attending Selma High School.

Wednesday, Brown, 17, was given the Principal’s Leadership Award by Selma High Principal Eli Welch III.

Brown, who has been on the straight-A honor roll throughout high school, was given the award for her high academic achievements and many school activities.

While attending Selma High, Brown has been a cheerleader and participated in the Delteen Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Selma-Dallas County Youth Leadership, and the SHS Student Government.

Besides being named a University of Alabama Rural Science Scholar, Brown also received the Selma High Academic Recognition Award, Most Spirited Cheerleader of 2001, Best All-Round Cheerleader of 2002, first runner-up for Miss Homecoming, and Ms. Delteen Debutante 2003.

After graduation, Brown plans to attend the University of Alabama and study to become a nurse anesthesiologist.

Anderson, 18, the other Selma High School honoree, managed to impress not only her teachers, but also the Coca-Cola Corporation. She’s been chosen to be a part of the soft drink company’s Scholars Program.

Scott Stanley, district sales manager for Coca-Cola, said Anderson was chosen from 250,000 students to be nominated for the program.

The students chosen to go to Atlanta will be interviewed and may receive a $20,000 or $40,000 scholarship.

While Anderson is still waiting to see if she gets chosen to go to Atlanta, she remains confident.

Welch said he was not surprised that Anderson has been nominated for the program.

Anderson plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham and study physical therapy.
