Robert Paisley Rives Jr.

Robert &8220;Bob&8221; Paisley Rives Jr., 82, of Wilmer, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at a Mobile hospital.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Rives Family Cemetery, Collirene, with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife Gloria Douglas Rives of Wilmer; daughter, Linda Batchelor and Sally Hudson; son, Robert Paisley Rives III; step-sons, Scotty Douglas and Chris Douglas; and seven grandchildren.

Active pallbearers David Batchelor, Robie Rives, Chris Douglas, Scotty Douglas, Tommy Love, Frank Middleton, Gatewood Walding and Ed Kramer.

Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mt. Rives was a cattle auctioneer for more than 40 years. He was a World War II veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart.

Charles H. Williams

Charles H. Williams, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at a veteran nursing home in Tuskegee.

No memorial services will be held.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Williams of Selma; and lovingly remembered by his brothers, Clinton M. Williams and Leonard H. Williams both of Decatur; his sister, Danna Lou Williams Boozer of Selma; three nieces; five nephews; five great-nieces; four great-nephews; and two great-great-nephews.

Mr. Williams was a proud veteran of the Korean War.

Hoover Lafayette Kynard

Hoover Lafayette Kynard, 72, died March 13, 2004, at a hospital in Birmingham. Services are at noon, Wednesday, March 17, at the Marion Baptist Academy Auditorium on Centerville Street in Marion, with Rev. Walter Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the Kynard’s Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife for 45-years, Rosie Tubbs Kynard; sons, Hoover Grissom Kynard Sr., Horace Wayne (Kimberly) Kynard and Harold Bruce Kynard; grandsons, Hoover Grissom Kynard Jr. and Tyler Christian Kynard; and one sister Opelia (Charles) Townsel; a special sister- in-law, Sara (Cornelius) Key and many other relatives and friends including Woodie Jackson, Albert Reed, Johnnie A. McCalpine, Willie Kynard, Albert Nelson and Herbert O. McFadden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Tyler L. Kynard, Sr. and four brothers, Alonzo Kynard, John Kynard, Tyler Kynard Jr., and Warren Kynard, and one sister, Sadie Petty Kynard.

He was a member of The Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Marion and served as chairman of the Church Board, Adult Sunday school teacher and church clerk. He served for several years in the United States Army.

Mr. Kynard attended the public school system in Perry County.

He received a degree in social

studies, english and administration and supervision from Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University in Montgomery.

He did additional studies at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

He was a teacher and high school principal in the Perry County School System for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Inc. and Goshen Lodge 132A.

He was owner and operator of Kynard’s Farm in Marion. He was a person that never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him.

He loved to talk, laugh and make people happy.

Rev. Marvin Dobene

Rev. Marvin Dobene, 93, of Brent, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at a hospital in Tuscaloosa.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lee & Rollins Funeral Home.

Wesley Sanders Jr.

Wesley Sanders Jr., 64, of Manor, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at a Selma hospital.
