The shooting death of a Selma man in Lowndes County last week has resulted in a number of suspects, but so far no arrests.

Lowndes County Sheriff Willie Vaughner, 53, said that Arthur Lee Soles, 34, died at Baptist South, a Montgomery hospital, in the early hours last Thursday.

The shooting took place in the Whitehall community just outside of an abandoned trailer. Vaughner expects an arrest to be made at some point, though he wouldn’t say when.

The police department dispatcher received a call from Baptist South around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, and was told that Soles had been shot and was at the hospital.

Just fifteen minutes later another call was received informing the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department that Soles had died.

Vaughner said that Lowndes County Investigator Rufus Haralson was sent to Montgomery and spoke with nurses and doctors at the hospital. The sheriff’s department also requested assistance in the case from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.

Soles’ body was turned over to the Department of Forensic Sciences. A detailed autopsy report hasn’t yet been provided to the sheriff’s department.

Vaughner said that several people have been interviewed concerning the shooting, but no one has been brought into custody.

Details of the shooting have not been released by Vaughner because the investigation is ongoing.
