Charles Alonzo Carter Jr.

Charles Alonzo Carter Jr., of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Selma, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at a healthcare facility in Louisiana.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Winnfield Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, La., with the Pastor Paul Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow in Winnfield Memorial Park Cemetery with Winnfield Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his parent Yvonne and Lionel Maggitt Sr. of Baton Rouge La.; his father, Charles A. Carter Sr. of Selma; three brothers, Warren Pritchett of Baytown Texas, Jarvis Morton and Lionel Maggitt Jr. both of Baton Rouge, La; two sisters, Decarlo Pritchett and Lillian Jane Maggitt both of Baton Rouge, La; five brothers, all of Selma, Tom and Elijah Carter, Kendrick and Broderick Smith, and Cedrick Fuller; four sisters, all of Selma, Elizabeth, Melissa, Mary, and Angela Carter; grandmother Nancy Pritchett; and grandfather, Tom Carter both of Selma; a niece Da’ Kvira; two nephews Jeremy and Jarvell; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends, and best friend Jermaine Bradford.

He was preceded in death by grandmother, Elizabeth Carter, grandfather Willie James Pritchett, and cousin Clifford Pritchett.

Active pallbearers are Lionel Maggitt Sr., Lionel Maggitt Jr., Warren Pritchett, Antonio Pritchett, Chris Harrington and Jermaine Bradford.

Honorary pallbearers are friends and family.

Mr. Carter was born on May 2, 1981.

Ruby Mae Jones

Ruby Mae Jones, 71, of Marion Jct., formerly of Mobile, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Bible Lighthouse COGIC, Marion Jct., with the Rev. Marie McCorney officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Samuel L. Jackson Funeral Directors of Mobile directing.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Eldridge Jones Sr., three sons, Eldridge (Sheila) Jones Jr., John (Emma) Jones and Kenneth Jones of Marion Jct.; six daughters, Paulette (Donnell) Williams, Shirley (Barry) Larkin, Patricia (Herman) Gaines of Huntsville, Phyllis (George) Parks of Montgomery, Rutha (Emanual) Gill and Sandra (Elisha) Mitchell of Montgomery; brother, Willie (Lula) Battles of Mobile; sisters, Irene Matture and Lula Holloway; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter.

Betty McGaha

Betty McGaha, of Selma, died Monday, March 1, 2004, at her home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lawrence Funeral Home.

Chester J. Brown

Chester J. Brown, 45, of Selma, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at a Florida hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

Earle O’Neal Smith

Earle O’Neal Smith, 58, of Maplesville, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Indian Grave Cemetery in Billingsley, with the Rev. John Ingram officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three sons, Kevin (Elaine) Smith, Kenneth (Melissa) Smith both of Maplesville and Tony (Karen) Smith of Stanton; two daughters, Emily (Donald) Walker of Selma and Sarah Smith of Lawley; one brother, Gary Smith of Maplesville; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.V. and Sarah O. Smith, brother, Cecil Smith and a sister, Shirley Fountain.
