The Morgan Academy Senators opened their baseball season Tuesday at home against Tuscaloosa Academy in what turned out to be a pitchers duel.

Rick Brignac starting pitcher for the Senators only gave up two hits throughout seven innings.

“Brignac pitched well for us,” said Terry Adkins head coach for the Senators. “We played a good defensive game we just couldn’t put together a couple of hits when we needed to.”

The game moved along quickly through all seven innings with neither team putting anything together until the later part of the game.

In the top f the fourth inning Brignac gave up the lead off walk to Bart Farley, and Jesse Prentice Dunn hit into a double play and it looked like the Senators would get out of the inning unscathed. With two outs the pitcher for Tuscaloosa Academy Michael Obradovich

stepped up and picked up the first swing double, and then Matt Jenkins drove him in with a blooper to center to give the Knights the first run of the game and a 1-0 lead.

That was all it would take for the Knights to take the game behind an outstanding pitching performance from Obradovich.

In the bottom of the seventh the Senators looked as if they would make an attempt at getting back in the game. Robert Collins drilled one in the gap to give the Senators the tying run on first with no one out. Josh Gardner came up next and hit a shallow pop fly to left to pick up the first out of the inning. Allen Callaway came up next and hit in to the double play to end the Senator threat, and give Tuscaloosa Academy th 1-0 win.

The Senators picked up three hits in the game. Robert Armstrong, Allen Callaway, and Collins each had a hit apiece.

The Senators take on Lee Scott on Friday at Bloch Park in a wooden bat game.
