Reuben W. Crosby

Reuben W. Crosby, 62, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at his home.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 23, from 6 – 8 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home. Burial will be at Marvin Cemetery, Butler.

The Rev. Jerry Smith will officiate.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Crosby; daughters, Kimberly (Johnny) Julian, Brunsville; Stacey Crosby, Jackson; stepdaughters, Donna (Billy) Glass, Sweetwater; Bonnie (Tommy) Williams, Valley Grande; stepson, Kenneth (Michelle) Ethridge, Linden; sisters, Majorie Phillips, Clark County; Ruby (Dallas) Franklin, Fla.; Laura Clevenager, Tenn.; six grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

He was a Baptist and served his country in the military.

Selma Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nell Frances Gillis Watters

Nell Frances Gillis Watters, 86, of Selma, died Feb. 22, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Sonny Edwards officiating.

Mrs. Waters is survived by her husband, Odis Watters, Selma; children, Shirley Baggett, Selma; Clarence “Toota” (Harriet) Piper, Selma; Raymond “Bubba” Piper, Selma; Henry “Tubby” (Ruby) Piper, Wilmer; daughter-in-law, Jackie Piper, Fla.; sisters, Clarice Taylor, Lawrenceville, Ga.; Mitzi Bochert, Virginia Beach, Va.; 19 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lynn Piper; two sisters Seal Bailey and Faye Gillis and a brother, Bill Gillis.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to one’s favorite charity.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

George Henry Jones

Major George Henry “Casey” Jones, 65, of Prattville, formerly of Guin, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Guin City Cemetery. Bro. Scott Stokes and Bro. Hardy Robinson will officiate.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hollis Jones, Prattville, son, William Gregory (Catherine) Jones; grandson, William Henry Jones,

all of Wetumpka; mother, Gertie Benton Jones, Guin; sisters, Mary Faye (William) Motes, Belle Glade, Fla.; Sara (Lee) Cooper, Hamilton; brothers, John Edward “Jack” (Doris) Jones, Hodgenville, Ky.; Donald (Gwyneth) Jones, Guin; and friend, Col. Ned W. McHenry.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Jones and sister, Margie Palmateer.

Major Jones was born Dec. 22, 1938, in Guin.

He started working as an Alabama State Trooper in 1961 and retired in 1996.

He was a member of the Alabama State Troopers Association and the Alabama Peace Officers Association and the Alabama State Police Association.

He was the organizer and former Commander of the Alabama State Trooper Honor Guard.

Norwood Funeral Home of Guin is directing services.

Juanita Moore

Juanita Moore, 53, of Selma, died Feb. 18, 2004, at Warren Manor. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. at Miller Funeral Service Chapel. Bishop Ralph Terry will officiate. Burial will follow in New Live Oak.

Details will follow at a later date.
