Senators to play for title

After overcoming a year filled with ups and downs and no shortage of adversity, the Morgan Academy Lady Senators can finally see what they have been working so hard for &045;&045; the state title.

The Lady Senators took on the Monroe Academy Lady Longhorns in Montgomery Thursday in the semi-final round, and pulled off the big win 52-36.

The Lady Senators are no stranger to playing for the state championship they won the title in 1992 and lost in the championship game in 1996.

The lady Senators have pulled off back-to-back 20- win seasons. They’ve lost only 11 games in the last two years. Last season almost mirrors what the Lady Senators have done this year, with the exception of getting to play for the State Championship.

The Lady Senators were led in the game against the Lady Longhorns by Sarah Wood with 16 points and eight rebounds. Laura Morris also had a good night putting up eight points, four rebounds, and three assists on the day. Hayden Casey also finished the game with eight points, and she picked up five rebounds, and three steals. Blair Wood picked up seven points in the game and eight rebounds, and Mallory Jones had six big points and two steals.

Three other players for the Lady Senators had a huge defensive game even though they didn’t light up the score board. Katie Taylor, Elizabeth Elliott, and Ginger Gaines came up big for the Lady Senators down the stretch.
