Gladys Cates Jones

Gladys Cates Jones, 80, of Selma, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Finch officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery, Centreville with Lawrence Funeral directing.

Survivors include her husband Paul Jones of Selma; son, William H. Jones and wife Denise of Birmingham; daughters, Julia Sosebee and husband Ed of Centreville and Barbara Headley and husband Al of Clanton.; sister, Aurelia Hale of Montgomery; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Lee Prince

Lee Prince, 44, of Selma, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2004, at a local nursing home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy McDole Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a special friend, Pheoba Bostick; godmother, Fannie Brown; two sisters, Diane (Rev. Sammy) McDole Sr. and Clara Marie Thomas; two uncles, Embred Lowrey and Willie (Nell) Prince; three aunts, Beatrice (Albert) McDole Jr,., Doris Thigpen and Mary Prince; three great-aunts, Pauline Oden, Barbara Sanders and Anna Wilbert Sanders.

Samuel C. Towns

Samuel C. Towns, 80, of Pleasant Hill, died Monday Feb. 16, 2004, at a healthcare facility.

Services are at noon Saturday, Feb. 21, at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. J.L. Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, George Ishman

(Bertha) of Sardis; two sisters, Elaine T. Alexander (Thomas) of Columbus, Ga., and Ethel T. Johnson (Jimmy) of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Frances Phillips and Delores Wiley of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Sammy B. Towns (Eunice)) of Sardis and Joseph L. Towns of Columbus, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Towns of Sardis, Fannie Towns of Atlanta, Ga., and Ovetta Williams of Selma; two brothers-in-law, Edward (Maude) Cowan and Milton Cowan; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Carrie Towns.

Family visitation will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Linda King Mitchell

Linda King Mitchell, 44, of Selma, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Freewill holiness Church with Elder Jerry Holman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Lamar Mitchell; two special nephews, Jacques ad Jamar King; one daughter, Victoria Barlow (Eric); one brother, Kable King (Sabrina); four sisters, Frances Watkins of Detroit, Mich., Ella Gordon (Earnest), Dale Dailey (Joseph) of Selma and Joanne King of Grovehill; three grandchildren; one son-in-law, Eric Barlow; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, three aunts and three uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Evans and Ruby King Sr.

Active pallbearers are nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are nephews.

Claude E. Wiggins

Claude E. Wiggins, 77, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Chappell and great-nephew, the Rev. Phillip W. Rush officiating.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Lucile Wiggins; son, Randy Edwards (Rosanne) Wiggins of Selma; daughter, Claudia Wiggins Barnard of Theodore; brothers, Milton (Cammie) Wiggins of Selma and James Howard (Earline) Wiggins of Seminole; sister, Dorothy Wiggins (Chalmers) Collins of Montgomery; grandchildren, Katie Kuhn Baumgartner, Robert Bryan Kuhn, Lauren Leigh Wiggins; great-grandchildren, Leighton James Kuhn.

Pallbearers are his nephews, Travis Rush, Eric Jones, David Jones, Mike Wiggins, Mark Wiggins, Ronnie Wiggins.

Honorary pallbearers are Same Hillman, Sam Yarbrough, Ned Farish, Russell Williams, Leonard McCary, and Jack Frost.

Claude has a special way with people and a love of horses. He was a member of Valley Grande Baptist Church.

He will be sadly missed by numerous family and friends. His presence has touched many through his life and testimony.

Marie King

Marie &8220;Mrs. T&8221; King, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2004, at the home of her granddaughter in Humble, Texas.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at New Galilee Baptist in Selma on Water Avenue. Burial will follow in Everdake Baptist Church Cemetery, on River Rd. in Burnsville, with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include five sons, James (Ola) Brown and Motties (Kim) King of Selma, Martin (Peggy) King of Houston, Texas, Adam King of Chicago, Ill., and Gerald (Glynnis) Moss of Bessemer; six daughters, Melinda (Clinton) Ford, Ruth (Charles) Campbell all of Selma, Barbara

(Gary) Wakefield of Chicago, Ill., Mary Jane of Birmingham, Bernice King, Josephine Torrain both of Cleveland, Ohio; 36 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great- great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; very special friends, Liz and Mac Mathis of Chicago, Ill.; two very special cousins, Mary Peat and Peralee McDaniels both of Selma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ceasar King.

Flower bearers are family and friends.

Repast will be held at the Home of Mrs. King, 401 Co. Rd.540, Selma.

Mrs. Davis was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Dallas County to the late Motties Hopper and Annie Dexter. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Everdale Baptist Church. Later joining New Galilee Baptist Church where she remained faithful until her death.

John James Powers

John James Powers, 77, of Albany, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at his home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Morningside United Methodist Church in Albany, Ga., with the Rev. Scott Brenton ad the Rev. Floyd Mitchell officiating. Entombment will in Crown Hill Mausoleum in Albany, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Powers of Albany, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Mary Jane Powers of Tucson, Ariz., Glenn and Marcia Powers of Acworth, Ga. and Tim and Heidi Powers of Leesburg, Ga.; one sister, Barbara Fortenbury of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Jeff Powers of Palm harbor, Fla., Jennifer Powers and Elizabeth Powers both of Acworth, Ga., and Erin Powers of Tucson, Ariz.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Powers was a native of Pleasant Hill, but lived in Albany since 1963. He was a retired Mst. Sgt., in the U.S. Air Force where he was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He also retired for civil service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. He was a member of Morningside UMC, Air Force Sergeants Association and Selma Masonic Chapter, former member of Country Cousins and Rafter Rockers and Square Dance Clubs.

Anna Lee J. Johnston

Anna Lee J. Johnston, of Ft. Worth Texas, formerly of Selma, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Frank B. Johnson of Fr. Worth, Texas; two sons, William C. White and wife Sally of Houston, Texas and John J. White and wife Mary of Ft. Worth, Texas; four grandsons; and a great-granddaughter; and locally by a cousin, Mrs. George Kyser of Carlowville.

Mrs. Johnson was raised in Selma and graduate form Selma High School Class of 1938. He attended Florida State and the University of Alabama. She had lived in Miami and Merritt Island, Fla., for over 40 years and had recently

moved to Ft. Worth to be near her sons.

Willie C. Brown

Willie C. Brown, of Selma, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Grant Chapel AME Church. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Stella V. Wooley

Stella V. Wooley, 95, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at a Marion nursing home.

Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at Mt. Nebo AME Zion Church at noon with the Rev. Jerry James officiating and Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two children, Fannie Wooley and Jimmy (Carol) Woods of Marion; two sisters, Anna M. Smith of Mobile and Beatrice McLaughlin of Marion; five grandchildren, Florence Pickens, Jimmy Bradley, Sheena Bradley, Kim (Wesley) Radford and Michael (Linda) Woods; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren and many dear relatives and friends.

Mrs. Stella Wooley was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Marion to James and Azalee Woods. She became a member of Mt. Nebo AME Zion Church at a young age.

Jeannette Maxine Williamson Jones

Jeannette Maxine Williamson Jones, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004.

Services will be held Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Hatcher officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

The visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at Selma Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Jones of Valley Grande; three sons, John Jones of Montgomery, James (Faye) Jones of Selma and Edward (Loretta) Jones of Valley Grande; one daughter, Debra (Stan) Yates of Montgomery; her mother, Belma Williamson of Valley Grande; four brothers, Cecil Williamson of Willow Springs, N.C., Ronald (Diane) Williamson of Valley Grande, Quintus (Patsy) Williamson of Valley Grande and Richard (Brenda) Williamson of Birmingham; one sister-in-law, Vergie (Wylie) Walker of Valley Grande; six grandchildren, Brandon Yates, Suzanna Yates, Daniel Yates, Gabrielle Jones, Jacob Jones and Heather Jones; seven nephews and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mac Fowler Williamson Sr., and a brother, Mac Fowler Williamson Jr.

Pallbearers will be Mike Story, Norman Copeland, Don Jones, Joseph Bearden, Jessie Nichols Jr. and Sam Weber.

Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of Northside Baptist Church.

The family wishes to say a special thanks to the staff of Warren Manor Nursing Home and the caregivers of Cahaba Hospice.

Roberta Jones

Roberta Jones, 66, of Demopolis, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Rush Specialty Hospital in Meridian, Miss.

Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Demopolis. Rev. Wilson Crum is the pastor and Rev. Mitchell Congress will officiate with Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis directing.

Internment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Demopolis.

The remains will repose at the church on Thursday beginning at noon.
