Side Street Strutters take stage Thursday

The Selma Community Concert Association will present The Side Street Strutters on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Pickard Auditorium.
Admission is by season membership tickets: $35 for adults, who receive one ticket and $80 for donors, who receive two.
The tickets are available at the Selma-Dallas Public Library, the Chamber of Commerce and at the door the night of the concert. Intrested patrons can also call 872-3527.
The tickets are good for Thursday’s concert and the remaining concert in the Community Concert season: Mac Frampton, the &uot;Piano Man,&uot; presenting &uot;On the Wings of Freedom&uot; on Thursday, March 13, at Pickard Auditorium.
The Side Street Strutters capture the charm, vitality and creative energy of jazz’s musical heritage in America. The ensemble, which consists of seven members, has traveled throughout most of the nation and abroad.
The repertoire for the group includes Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller from the musical environment of Old New Orleans. The popular jazz melodies of Porter, Carmichael and Gershwin are combined with the swing of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and others.
In addition to the musical arrangements, the Strutters show presentation includes colorful costumes, a stage set, tap dancing, vocal selections, novelty number and the use of rare and unusual musical instruments.
There will be CDs and cassettes of the group’s music for sale in the lobby of Pickard Auditorium.
Some of the songs performed will include &uot;Alexander’s Ragtime Band,&uot; &uot;Closer Walk With Thee,&uot; &uot;St. Louis Blues,&uot; &uot;Jumpin’ at the Woodside,&uot; &uot;Pennies from Heaven, &uot;Sing, Sing, Sing,&uot; &uot;Some of These Days,&uot; &uot;A Kiss to Build a Dream On,&uot; &uot;Don’t Get Around Much,&uot; &uot;The Lady is a Tramp,&uot; &uot;Black Bottom Stomp,&uot; &uot;Frankie and Johnny,&uot; &uot;Basin Street Blues,&uot; &uot;Moonglow,&uot; &uot;King Porter Stomp,&uot; &uot;Don’t Be That Way,&uot; &uot;St. James Infirmary,&uot; &uot;Cottontail,&uot; &uot;Tiger Rag,&uot; &uot;Makin’ Whoopie,&uot; &uot;Take the ‘A’ Train,&uot; &uot;Stardust,&uot; &uot;Night Train,&uot; &uot;Riverboat Shuffle,&uot; &uot;The Mooch&uot; and &uot;Caravan.&uot;
