Nancy Lillian Pugh

Nancy Lillian Pugh, 59, of Selma, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at a Birmingham hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Pineview Memory Gardens with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer (Stephen) Smitherman of Plantersville; brothers, William Pugh of Selma, James (Kathy) Pugh of Raleigh, N.C.; niece, Faye Wolfe of Raleigh, N.C.; nephew, Bobby Pugh of Selma; grandchildren, Megan Smitherman, Kloie Smitherman, William Jade Pugh.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

James Lloyd Ashley

James Lloyd Ashley, 69, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Living Waters Church with the Rev. Ed Wilson officiating and the Selma Funeral Home directing.

Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Cleita Ashley; sons, Marty (Teri) Ashley of New Orleans, La. and Micky Ashley of Tyler; daughters, Kari (Alex) McColman of Mrytle Beach, S.C., and Kristi (Randy) Estes of Demoplis; sister, Joyce (Robert) Dunnahoe of Cosage, Mo.; grandchildren, Justin Ashley, Dustin Ashley, Danika Ashley, Audrina Ashley, Kaitlin Estes, Randy Estes, and Riley Estes.

Pallbearer include Carrol Serman, Joe Hitt, Stan Johnson, Willie Bush, and William Andrews.

James was a retired Air Craft Mechanic and is retired Veteran of the Air Force. He attended Calvary (Living Waters) Church and was a special friend to many.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Claude E. Wiggins

Claude E. Wiggins, 77, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home with the Revs. Doug Chappell and Phillip W. Rush officiating.

Survivors include his son, Randy Edwards (Rosanne) Wiggins of Selma; daughter, Claudia Wiggins Barnard of Theodore; brothers, Milton (Cammie) Wiggins of Selma and James Howard (Earline) Wiggins of Seminole; sister, Dorothy Wiggins (Chalmers) Collins of Montgomery; grandchildren, Katie Kuhn Baumgartner, Robert Bryan Kuhn, Lauren Leigh Wiggins; great-grandchildren, Leighton James Kuhn.

Pallbearers are his nephews, Travis Rush, Eric Jones, David Jones, Mike Wiggins, Mark Wiggins, Ronnie Wiggins.

Honorary pallbearers are Same Hillman, Sam Yarbrough, Neal Farish, Russell Williams, Leonard McCary, and Jack Frost.

Claude has a special way with people and a love of horses.

He was a member of Valley Grande Baptist Church.

Julia Calhoun

Julia Calhoun, 74, of Selma, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Dan Williams

Dan Williams, 59, of Selma, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at a local hospital.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.

Georgie Ensign Arnold

Georgie Ensign Arnold, a resident of Albuquerque since 1976, died peacefully Saturday, February 14th, 2004 following a stroke.

She is survived by three children: Maggie Nevins of Albuquerque and Bill and Joe Arnold of Juneau, Alaska, and two grandchildren: Caton Arnold of Dallas, Texas and Justin Levingston of Valrico, Florida, all of whom were with her at the time of her death.

Georgie’s family also includes a great grandchild Kaleb Arnold and three nephews: John Ensign of Shirley, Massachusetts, Donald Ensign of Cedar Grove, New Jersey and Lee Jones of Clanton, Alabama.

Georgie was the daughter of

W. L. Ensign who died in Binghamtom, New York, after which her mother, Willnita Ensign, now deceased, returned to Selma with their children to live.

Georgie was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Ensign Jones, Selma; her brother, Willis Ensign, New Jersey; and her aunt and uncle, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Parrish, of Selma.

Georgie graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School, Selma, Alabama, in 1945 and attended Gulf Park College for Women, Long Beach, Mississippi, prior to transferring to the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, from which she received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1949.

She was affiliated with Delta, Delta, Delta sorority. Following graduation she completed a one-year internship in Medical Technology at the Medical College of Alabama/Jefferson-Hillman Hospital, Birmigham, and received registration in 1950 from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Medical Technologist.

She began her laboratory work career at the old Vaughan Memorial Hospital in Selma. Georgie was retired from Lovelace Medical Center, Albuquerque, where she practiced for the last ten years of her second career as a Biofeedback Therapist.

Her first career was as a Laboratory Technician but because of her passion for the unique enabling healing possible with Biofeedback she devoted many years to an effort pioneering the practice of that profession. Her friends and family, who say that her love for others, and their love for her, defined her life, feel that it was especially fitting that she was born and died on Valentine’s Day. A memorial service in her honor was held Tuesday, February 17th, in the Chapel at French Mortuary at 10500 Lomas Boulevard NE and was followed by a private interment at Sunset Memorial Park.
