Inez Vasser, 85, of Marion, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at a Selma hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15,at Marion Baptist Academy with the Rev. John Suttle officiating. Burial will follow in Hope-well Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Hattie Walker; one grandchild; two nieces; and three nephews.

Eva M. Burnett, 80, of Selma, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Maplesville, with the Rev. William Earl Short and the Rev. Paul Atchison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include sons, Larry Joe (Faye) Anderson of Plantersville and Billy (Cindy) Burnett of Selma; brother, Burt Chandler and Barney Chandler both of Maplesville; two sisters, Nettie B. Broadhead and Eula Hayes both of Clanton; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Burnett, two sons, William Earl Anderson and Douglas McArthur Anderson, one daughter, Virginia Payne and two sisters, Lucille Weathers and Maggie Anderson.

Flora Bell Evans

Flora Bell Evans, 57, of Selma, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, in Selma.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Mt. Moriah Church with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Evans; three sons, Jimmie (Mary) Woods, Anthony Woods and Clarence (Gabriel) Evans; three daughters, Mary Ann Woods, Linda (Willie) Sullivan and Natalie (Willie) Craig; brothers, David Lee Woods and George Woods; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren two sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; 14 brothers-in-law; 19 sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews; special nephews, Benjamin (Victoria) Alexander of Boston, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mary Woods and a brother, Perry Lee Woods, sisters, Minnie Lee woods and Essie Lee Woods.

Susie Etoya Tennimon, 74, of Selma, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at her home.

Sherman Sigler, 44, of Selma, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Isabella Baptist Church, Tyler, with the Rev. Kevin Cockrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with J. H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Octavia C. Sigler; mother, Willie Mae Sigler of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sons, Rico Thomas of Selma, and Leguntre Robinson of Huntsville; one stepson, Melvin Robinson of Jackson; one stepdaughter, Timeka Robinson of Jackson; one brother, Herman D. Sigler of Utica, N.Y.; two sisters, Tracey Sigler and Tiffany Sigler both of Syracuse, N.Y.; devoted grandmother, Ida Sigler; friend, devoted friend, Alton Bonner; one grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sigler was a life long member of Isabella Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Naomi Blunt, 85, of Dallas County, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at a local hospital.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, Feb. 15, at Greater New Hop Baptist Church, Hwy. 80 E. with Elder Johnnie Blunt officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Church Cemetery, Lowndes County, with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Family visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Friday, at Larkin and Scott Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Russell.

Clara Nettles, 84, of Selma, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at a local hospital.

William Augustus Powell

William Augustus Powell, 87, of Milton Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at a Florida hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Houston Park Church of Christ with Minister Tom McLemore officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include son, William Dale Powell and wife Mary Ann of Pace, Fla.; daughter, Janet Powell Willingham and husband, Don of Selma; brother, Johnny Powell of Pascagoula, Miss.; grandchildren, Keith Willingham, Troy Powell, Todd Powell, Tara Powell Kerr and husband Johnny, Tony Barlow and wife Jill, Page Barlow McCullough and husband Tony; great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Kerr, Trenton Powell, Lori Brown, John Travis McCullough, Kayla Barlow and Elecia Barlow.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Henry Powell, daughter, Linda Powell Barlow and husband John Barlow.

Family visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mr. Powell was a Golden Glove boxer in his earlier days and fought in 80 fights. He had one loss and one draw. He worked for the railroad as a fireman and then a meat market manger for Big Bear Supermarket for most of his professional life. He was a &uot;pink man&uot; at the hospital for many years and enjoyed the patients. He was a sociable person and loved talking to people. He loved deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Jackson, parents, Oscar Jackson and Adline Harper and sisters, Ruby Golder and Ruthie Boone.
