Two men confronted a store employee Thursday night as she closed shop and forced her to give them that day’s receipts.

Rosetta Burns, a Bargain Town employee, said she had closed the store around 7 p.m. and was just about to open her car when two men surprised her.

Warren Hinson, Selma Police public information officer, said the suspects approached from the north side of building. One stood about 5-foot-11 and weighed 135 pounds. The other stood 6-foot-1 and weighed 165 pounds. Both were wearing dark clothes and described as black.

Burns, who was carrying a bank bag filled with the store’s earnings, said that she thought the men were going to ask for her purse, which she didn’t have.

Instead, said Hinson, the men told Burns to drop the bank bag she was holding.

Burns said that one of the men was fishing around in his pockets before pulling something out. She couldn’t, however, make out what it was.

She then raised her arms and the bank bag dropped to the parking lot.

One of the them grabbed the bag and they both ran off, Burns said.

Hinson said that the men ran in the direction of Summerfield and Lapsley.

Burns said that a car was present at the scene when the robbery occurred, and thinks that it may have been connected to the crime.

The car, Burns said, pulled slowly around from the south side of Bargain Town as the robbery took place, and the driver watched as the crime happened.

The car then pulled onto Highland Ave.

Burns said she thought the car went around and picked up the two suspects.

Burns and another employee present at the time, Debbie Bennett, contacted the Selma Police Department and waited for them to arrive in a nearby parking lot.

Hinson said that police searched the area, but couldn’t locate the subjects.

The case is currently being investigated by the detective division.
