A carjacking Sunday night turned into an arrest on Monday.

Carlos Hooks of Selma, 18, was arrested around 11 p.m. Monday for the alleged stealing of a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix from Playland Bowl the night before, according to Lt. David Evans of the Selma Police Department.

Monday night Deputy David Odom spotted the stolen vehicle in the Craig Field area and stopped it. With some help from the K-9 unit, Odom was able to apprehend Hooks.

The handgun allegedly used in Sunday’s carjacking was also recovered.

Evans said that information gained from the traffic stop led to the arrest of a 17-year-old Selma youth who may also be involved in the Sunday night theft.

Around 9 p.m. Sunday two patrons of the bowling alley were confronted in the parking lot by two suspects with a gun.

The suspects demanded money. When the patrons didn’t have any, the suspects took one of their car keys instead.

An employee of Lawrence Funeral Home who was also present in the parking lot was forced to hand over his keys, too. Evans said that the suspects then took his car and drove away north on Highway 22.

Both Hooks and the juvenile were taken to the Dallas County Jail. Hooks’ bond was set at $10,000.

Evans added that because the case is considered a carjacking it’s a federal offense. The FBI is currently investigating, and federal charges may be pending.
