Jai Miller heads to Stanford

It won’t be remembered as the shot heard around the world, but it will be something that sports fans around state will be talking about for some time to come.

At a press conference Monday, Selma High School’s Jai Miller made it official: He’ll be going to Stanford instead of Auburn or Alabama.

Miller, a three-sport athlete who wanted a chance to play

football and basketball at the college level, will get that chance at Stanford.

Miller, who played quarterback in high school, will probably play wide receiver for the Cardinals.

In 2002 Miller accounted for 1,268 yards passing and 14 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 64 times for 812 yards and seven more touchdowns. Miller played defense as well and had six interceptions and 52 tackles in 2002.

Miller also leads the Saints’ basketball team in scoring. He has averaged 18 points a game over the last two seasons. He averages seven rebounds and six assists a game as well.

Miller said he felt that Stanford was the best fit for both the athletic ability and the academic ability that he possesses.

As it would be with any high school student, the decision to leave his home state was a tough one for Miller to make. He said he reached the decision to attend Stanford last Thursday night.

With Auburn and Alabama left disappointed, Miller is off to start another chapter in his academic and athletic career.
