John Henry Duncan

Deacon John Henry Duncan, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at a Montgomery hospital.

Services are at noon on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Beech Island Baptist Church, Selma, with the Rev. Clinton Peeples officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Active pallbearers are friends of the family.

Deacon Duncan, better known as &8220;Will,&8221; &8220;Big Man,&8221; &8220;Pop&8221; and granddaddy was born Oct. 3, 1927, to the late Beatrice and Turner Duncan in Selma.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Lue Alice Duncan of Selma; four daughters, Gracie Smitherman, Mary (Turner) Goldsby of Selma, Bertha (Demetrius) Holiday of Maple Heights, Ohio, and Tamara (Tarmatra) Smith of Selma; two sons Charles (Jacqueline) Duncan of South Euclid, Ohio, and Eric Duncan of Selma; two sisters, Geneva Moore of Selma and Joyce (Samuel) Flagg of Brookhaven, N. Y.; one brother, Louis (Iora) Duncan; a stepmother, Mittie Duncan; two aunts, Mary Perry of Buffalo, N. Y., and Hattie Smith of Selma; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Mitchell of Selma, Bertha (John) Dinkins of Brooklyn, N.Y.,

and Geraldine Betton of Hackettown, N. J.; one brother-in-law, Lonnie (Iris) Mitchell of New York City; 25 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Deacon Duncan was preceded in death by two sons, John Henry Mitchell and George Duncan; and one daughter, Suzannee Wise.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Beach Island Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon.

He was married to Lue Alice Mitchell. To this union eight children were born. He served in the U. S. Navy where he fought in World War II. After serving in the Navy, he returned home and was employed at R.L. Zeigler Company for 29 years. He retired from Zeigler in 1992.

Charles S. Foreman Sr.

Deacon Charles S. Foreman Sr., 86, of Demopolis, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at a Demopolis hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gallion. Burial will follow with full military honors at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Demopolis.

The body will lie in state at the church on Thursday, beginning at 12 noon.

Brister Waiters

Brister Waiters, 101, of Coatopa, died recently in Coatopa.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Bethel-Pine Baptist Church in Coatopa, with the Rev. Floyd Bell officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

Samuel Maul

Samuel Maul, 61, of Chicago, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at a Illinois hospital.

Services are at noon Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Toodle officiating. Burial will follow in Sandridge Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Samuel Maul Jr.; one daughter, Helen Maul Roper; six brothers, Phillip Maul, Leroy Jones, Randy Jones, Larry Jones, Robert Jones and Walter Jones; two sisters, Patricia Jones and Rebecca Jones; three grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; four nephews; 10 nieces.

Active pallbearers are Phillip Maul, Leroy Jones, Randy Jones, Larry Jones, Robert Jones and Walter Jones.

Honorary pallbearers are family and friends.

Mary Alice Sealy

Mary Alice Sealy, 73, of Uniontown, died Monday, Jan. 26, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Uniontown Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Hicks, the Rev. Larry Potts and Dr. Earl Potts. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown with Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Elaine (Phillip) Robinson of Uniontown; one son, Jimmy (Brenda) Sealy of Uniontown; two sisters, Frances (C-Ray) Dunn of Jasper and Betty Ann (Lonnie) Kelley of Selma.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.G. (Buster) Sealy, a sister, Maxine Hayes; two brothers, Wilford Patrick and James Patrick.

Active pallbearers are Jim Sealy, Phil Robinson, Robbi Lindsay, James Herring Jrt., Blake Hargrover and Paul Wheeler.

David Lowe

David Lowe, 52, of Selma, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at his home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Sunny Acres Church of Christ, Selma, with the Rev. Willie Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lowe; three sons, David Lowe Jr., Michael Lowe and Jimmy Lowe; one daughter, Cinda Lowe; four brothers, Willie Lowe, Frank Lowe of Selma, Sam Lowe of Syracuse, N.Y., and Johnny Lowe of Maine; five sisters, Shirley (Willie) Davidson of Queens, N.Y., Geneva Johnson, Rachel A. Lowe, Stephanie Walters and Mary Lowe of Selma; nine grandchildren; one son-in-law; three daughters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae Lowe and Sam Lowe.

Donald Marvin Ward

Donald Marvin Ward, 78, of Selma, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lawrence Funeral Home.
