It took only five minutes for a phone call to turn into a carjacking.

According to Warren Hinson, public information officer for the Selma Police Department, a Selma man was robbed of his car outside of Bama Wash on Marie Foster Avenue.

He was making a phone call in the early hours of Jan. 25.

The man said that between 12:35 and 12:40 a.m. three people drove up in what was described as a small gray 1995 or 1996 Nissan.

A masked individual then got out of the back seat with a 12 gauge shotgun.

He fired it once into the air and told the victim to lay down.

Hinson said the man obeyed the masked person’s orders.

The person with the mask then got inside the victim’s car, a green, two-door 1983 Oldsmobile Cutless, and drove north away from the scene.

The two people in the gray Nissan, Hinson added, escaped west from the area.

The case is currently under investigation by the detective division.
