James McDanal

James &8220;Bill&8221; McDanal, 52, of Marion Junction, died Thursday, January 22, 2004, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, at Marion Junction Baptist Church with Bro. Ed Byrum and the Rev. Joel Farrow officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Jct. Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Kim McDanal; sons, Josh (Amanda) McDanal of Alabaster, Heath McDanal of Selma and Seth McDanal of Marion Jct.; daughter, Sarah Ann McDanal of Marion Jct.; brother, Dusty (Wonda) McDanal of Pine Hill; sister, Mary Dell (Von) McQueen of Selma; parents, James and Juanita McDanal of Selma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Jamie McDanal, Jason McDanal, Christopher McQueen, Jonathan McQueen, Eddie Pruett, J.W. McDanal, Johnny Westbrook and Harvey S. Lauderback Jr.

Honorary pallbearers are Billy N. McDanal, Ted McDanal, Mackey McDanal, Jim Norris, Joe McDanal, Herman Majors, Frank Williamson, A.F. Caley, Robert Pittman and James G. Farley Jr.

Family visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Friday.

Juanita R. Ransom

Juanita R. Ransom, 66, of Selma, died Sunday, January 18, 2004, in Columbus, Ohio.

Services are at 12 noon Friday, January 23, at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Dr. Charles E. Booth, Officiating. Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates. Professional Services are entrusted to the Wayne T. Lee Funeral Service, 1370 East Main Street Columbus, Ohio, 43205 (614) 253-7944.

Juanita is survived by her husband, Isaiah B. Ransom, Jr., daughter, Wanda Gable of Ashtubula, Ohio, granddaughter, Taia Ransom of Logan Utah, sisters Louvenia Cade and Mary Ellen Boykin both of Selma, Ala.; brothers, William &8220;Bill&8221; Rogers and George C. Rogers both of New York, NY, Louis Thomas (Elizabeth) Rogers of Pensacola, Fla., Cecil E. Rogers of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Juanita was preceded in death by her mother and farther, Pete and Mary B. Rogers, brothers, Pete, Jr., James, and Frank Roger and sister, Elizabeth Kirlpatrick.

A longtime member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Juanita served as Deaconess and co-chair of the Kitchen Committee.

She retired from Lucent Technology.

Ira DuBose Sr.

Ira DuBose Sr., 77, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Selma, died Friday, January 16, 2004, in Detroit, Mich.

Services are at 6 p.m. at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Rogers DuBose; two sons, Ira DuBose Jr., and Terrance Porter both of St. Paul Minn.; three daughters, Toya D. Henry of Selma, Karen DuBose of New York and Kimii Porter of St. Paul, Minn.; five sisters-in-law, Janie DuBose of Cleveland, Ohio, Vashti Ransom of St. Paul, Minn., Henrietta Rogers of Atlanta, Ga., Virginia Lamar of New York, N.Y. and Naomi Randolph of Selma; one aunt, Jencie &8220;Auntie Babe&8221; Pickens of East Orange, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Active pallbearers are sons and grandsons.

Mr. DuBose was born in Selma on July 26, 1926. He was educated in Selma Public Schools and Selma University and School of Art in Chicago, Ill. He was a former member of Brown Chapel AME Church, decorated U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Military ribbons include American Area, Asiatic Pacific, Victory and Korean Ribbons. He was retired form Ford Motor Co. in Detroit, Mich.
