As the Internet continues to grow, many colleges and universities have been tapping into its resources for use as an educational tool. Wallace State Community College, Selma is now following that lead with its new E-Learning courses.

Music appreciation has been offered online for two years and became so popular, WCCS opened more sections.

This month, two English composition courses were added, with even more courses slated for the summer semester. Any doubts the teachers had about these new courses disappeared after approximately 50 students registered for the spring semester.

These students only come to the Selma campus three times throughout the semester &045;&045; for orientation, the mid-term exam and the final exam.

E-Learning has become popular with students enrolled in the college’s Dual Credit Program, in which high school students take courses for college credit. These students can remain on their high school campus and still receive college credit through the program.

Students at Prattville High School, Selma High School, R.C. Hatch High School and others in the surrounding counties now have more opportunities to learn.

The program is not recommend for students who need one-on-one attention from teachers. Those who have no problems working alone and have a good grade point average are the most successful at online courses.

To meet accreditation standards, all WCCS Internet courses comply

with the requirements of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and are transferable to four year colleges and universities.
