Panthers outlast Saints, 86-85

Despite excellent play from the Selma High Saints Varsity team, the Southside Panthers led the game the whole way, defeating the Saints 86-85 Saturday night. The Saints fall to 11-8 for the year.

The game was a close one throughout, with a spectacular scoring streak from the Saints in the last minutes of the game.

The Southside Panthers managed to keep the upper hand the entire game through, with excellent play from all of its players.

Lead scorers for the Panthers were Jamarcus Hardy, 22 points; Nelson Watters, 19 points; Jeffrey Anderson, 14 points; and Cedric Brown, 13 points.

Leading the way for the Saints were Miguel Harris with 23 points; Jai Miller with 21 points and 14 rebounds; Robert Allen with 11 points and 5 rebounds; Johnny King with 12 points and 9 rebounds; and Brian Fails with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

The Saints junior varsity boys improved their record to 12-2, by dominating the Panthers 62-24. The Panthers managed to keep the lead throughout the entire game.

The Saints’ scoring was handled by John Dailey, who had 16 points; Robert Childers with 11 points; Edgar Brown with 7 points; and Donald Steele with 6 points.

For the Panther’s the lead scorers were Chris Wilson with 6, Marcus Murry with 5, and Nelson Snow with 3 points.

The Lady Saints also dominated the Panthers, 66-46, Saturday night, with solid scoring from all of the players.

Handling the scoring for the Saints were Santana Seay with 21 points and 10 rebounds; Keeyona Smiley with 10 points and 7 rebounds; and Keshee Dozier with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers’ lead scorers were Letti Hasberry with 12 points, Andreaka Williams with 12 points, and Keisha Towns with 8 points.

The Saints’ varsity boys will participate in the Henry Harris Classic today in Auburn.
