Lois Nichols Fretwell

Lois Nichols Fretwell, 90, of Marion, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Chapel of Kirk Funeral Homes in Marion, with the Rev. Buddy Majors officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.

Survivors include five daughters, Shirley Johnson of Fairfield, Mary Ruth (Buddy) Majors of McCalla, Nettie (Gary) Mayatt of Collinsville, Miss., Barbara (Gerald) Hale of Marion and Margaret (Wayne) Renfroe of Selma; two sons, John (Gail) Fretwell of Franklin, Ky., and Bill (Diane) Fretwell of Gainsville, Ga.; one sister, Johnnie Claude Wyatt of Greenville, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are Keith Johnson, Kevin Fretwell, David Fretwell, Greg Majors, Chris Fretwell, Scott Mayatt, Shayne Mayatt, Brian Hale and Lee Majors.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Michael Soppett, Gary Mayatt, Gerald Hale, Wayne Renfroe, Stan Fretwell, Jeremy Renfroe, Josh Renfroe, Paul Smitherman, Barry Plummer and Juston Johnson.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.

Bettie J. Brown

Bettie J. Brown, 35, of Tyler, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002 at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at New Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Tyler, with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her parents, James and Ethel Brown; one son, Jerier R. Brown; six brothers; one sister, Priscilla (Christopher) Lewis; grandmother, Eassie Brown; 12 aunts; eight uncles; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are friends and family.

Samuel Harrison

Samuel Harrison, 62, of Selma, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at his home.

Services are at 12 noon Monday, Jan. 6, at Calvary M.B. Church with Dr. H. B. Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Verlinda Anderson

Verlinda Anderson, 33, of Ohio, formerly of Dallas County, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 in Ohio.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Good Hope Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, with the Rev. John L. Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include eight brothers, Larry Anderson, Michael Anderson, Johnathan and Christopher Anderson, Robert Owden, John L. Owden, Leon Owden and Luegene Owden Jr.; four sisters, Doris, Lori, Shirley and Patricia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Adele Lilly

Adele Lilly, 94, of Orrville, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 in Tuscaloosa.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at First Baptist Church in Orrville, with the Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are family and friends.

Elvis Posey

Elvis Posey, 30, of Selma, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Camp Creek Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his father, LeFrank Robinson; six brothers, James and Lieutenant Posey, Frank Carter, LeFrank Robinson Jr., Roy Posey and William Gunn; seven sisters, Cathy James Gilchrist, Linda Marzett, Sherry Hardy, Lilly Posey, Debra Posey, Annie Ruth Posey and Janet Posey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Richard Conner Jr.

Richard Conner Jr., 22, of Uniontown, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 in Uniontown.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Julia L. White Funeral Home of Uniontown.

Annie B. Fitts

Annie B. Fitts, 79, of Selma, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at a local hospital.

Services are at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by husband Richard Fitts, Sr. of Selma; sons Charles Boone and Richard Fitts, Jr. of Selma; daughters Lavada Alexander and Julia Calhoun of Selma and Janet Kennon of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother Willie Edward Walton of Mobile; sisters Louise Simmons and Catherine Walton of Selma; special granddaughters Regina Brown, Jessica Spears, Joycilyn Kennedy, Octavia Thompson, Olivia Thompson and grandson Otto Thompson, Jr.

Active pallbearers will be Melvin Calhoun, David Calhoun, Rodney Harris, Jerry Weaver, Kelvin Homes, McArthur Coleman and Arthur Walton.

Louise Gordon Black

Louise Gordon Black, 88, of Selma, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at West Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. John D. Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include son Otis J. (Jacquelyn) Black, Sr.; brother Sam Jones; sisters Rosetta Willis and Adele Jones; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Gloria Griggs Black; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Active pallbearers are her nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of West Trinity Baptist Church.

Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband, James Black, Jr.; a daughter Mable B. Richburg and a son Martis M. Black, Sr.

Ethel Grant

Ethel Grant, 74, of Detroit, Mich., died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at New Mt. Lily Baptist Church with the Rev. J. D. Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow in Ridges Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Tiffany Seaborn

Tiffany Seaborn, 26, of Montgomery, formerly of Chicago, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002.

Memorial services are at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Dexter Ave. Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Thurman officiating and Bell Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Chester Valente Seaborn of Montgomery; parents, Timothy and Vivian Sanders of Chicago, Ill., and Tonya Sanders of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Eric and Timothy Bryant Sanders of Chicago, Ill; grandfather, Donell Johnson of Chicago, Ill.; father-in-law, Chester A. Seaborn of Montgomery; sisters-in-law, Angelita Seaborn of Montgomery and Gwendolyn (Paul) Green of South Carolina; a host of aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins; goddaughter, Nina Jefferson; special confidants, Ann Huguely and Sabrina Jefferson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, 1284 Perry Hill Rd. 36109.

Mrs. Seaborn, was a member of Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, a student at Alabama State University, a employee of Extended Stay America and mentor of Big Brothers Big Sisters Program.

Elmer Leroy Johnson

Elmer Leroy Johnson, 66, of Camden, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Greenwood Cemetery with Min. Billy Lambert officiating and Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Johnson of Camden; sons, Everette Lyle Johnson (Tiffany) of Montgomery and Lee Johnson of Ridgeland, Miss.; granddaughter, Belle Anne Johnson of Montgomery; sister, Jane Salter of Bermuda; and mother-in-law, Edith Hamil of Madison, Miss.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
