Lura Mae Hughes

Lura Mae Hughes, 96, of Selma, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at a nursing home.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, in the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordon Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her mother, Ingie Carter; father, Robert Carter; sons James E. Hughes and Willard L. Hughes; and husband, Marion Hughes.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary C. Mosby; daughter-in-law, Maureen Hughes; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and five great-, great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from noon until 1 p.m. on the day of services.

Ethel Barker

Ethel Barker, 95, of Selma, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at her residence.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Booker T. Booker officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lula Sturdivant; daughter, Gulean Rutledge; and sister Molly Sturdivant.

Survivors include five sons, Oscar (Mildred) Barker, Joseph (Betty) Barker, James (Annie Mae) Walker, and Jackie (Mary) Barker, all of Selma, and Ephrom Barker of Compton, Calif.; two daughters, Gerogia Mae Harris and Katie (William) McCullough; sister, Lelia Mae Cooper, of Selma; and grandson, Frederick Walker.

Active pallbearers will be members of the Selma Police Department.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Vaughan Regional Mealth Care Services, Nurse Jeanie and Nurse Rose, for outstanding care during Mrs. Barker’s illness.
