Daisy Sheffield Lewis

Daisy Sheffield Lewis, 96, of Selma, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at a local hospital. Graveside services are at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 15, in New Live Oak Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Ryan officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her son, Joseph C. (Glenda) Blake of Auburn; three grandchildren, Greg Blake of Slidell, La., Tracy Blake of Montgomery, and Jeff Blake of Auburn; a sister, Lenora Meeks of Opp; and a brother, Clay Sheffield of Florida.

Mrs. Lewis was born Aug. 11, 1907, in Thomaston. She trained and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in a Tuscaloosa hospital. She moved to Selma and worked as a seamstress and retail clerk until she retired at the age of 75. She always enjoyed her flowers, needlework and quilting, and was an excellent cook. She became a member of the Alabama Avenue Methodist Church in 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford &uot;Foots&uot; Lewis, and son, Jesse Blake.

Bernice Middlebrooks, 76, of Selma, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be announced later by Selma Funeral Home.
