Nell Niederhauser Moss

Nell Niederhauser Moss, 80, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. James K. Polk VanZandt officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Philip B. Moss; her children Deckie and Frank Buccilli., Patricia Vlack, Janet and John Calame; her grandchildren Katie and Stephen Black, Jeanie and Bryan Jones, Matt Calame, Russell Vlack, and Abby Calame; and her great-granddaughter Mary Carolyn Jones. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Warren D. Niederhauser, and close family friends Bernice Blocton and Jessie Parker.

Mrs. Moss was born in Akron, Ohio, and raised in Gadsden. She was educated at St. Mary’s Episcopal School for Girls in North Carolina and attended the University of Alabama. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Pandora, St. Paul’s Episcopal Women of the Church, and Trellis Garden Club. She was active in the Girl Scouts of America and enjoyed bridge, golf, handsewing, and deep-sea fishing with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Susan Palma Levy Finley

Susan Palma Levy Finley, 48, of Selma, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, December 11, at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Gardner officiating. Burial ill follow in the church cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, George W. Finley; daughter, Heather Caldwell; step-daughters, Sarah Finley and Rebecca Chappelle; father, Zoltan Boker; and grandsons, Patrick Sanders.

Mrs. Levy was retired from the United States Air Force.

Very Lou Stevens Colburn

Very Lou Stevens Colburn, 81, of Marion, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2003, at a Hale County hospital.

Services area at 2

p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Salem Church with the Rev. Arthur Merchant and the Rev. Brian Consley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.

Survivors include son, John Fuller Ingram of Marion, stepsons, Ray Ingram of Duncanville, Bruce Colburn, Benny Colburn, Ricky Colburn all of Centreville; two daughters, Sylvia Kinard Adams of Centreville and Cheryl Ingram Averette of Greensboro; two step-daughters, Diane Ingram Grimes of Coker and Janet Colburn of Centeville; four grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are William Hill, Jimmy Colburn, Ren Kinard, Kevin Averette, Arthur Thomas, James Fisher, Odis Stevens and Mark Averette.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

Elaine Eastep Curtis

Elaine Eastep Curtis, died Wednesday, December 9, 2003, at a Montgomery hospital

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, December 12, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Min. Dennis Turner officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by a devoted niece Constance E. Pugh (Ron) of Prattville; nieces Catherine E. Rogers (Jerry) of Austin, Texas and Cheryl E. Creighton of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; and nephew, David W. Eastep of Selma. Also surviving are great nieces and nephews Tara P. Daily (Jim) of Altus Okla., Ashley P. Knox (Dale) of Orange Beach, J. Brett Pugh of Montgomery, Brandye R. Rocca (Ralph) of Victorville, Calif., and Natalie Creighton of San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Curtis had three great, great nephews and one great, great niece.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Alton Leake Curtis and brothers, Clarence W. (Hike) Eastep and James W. (Pro) Eastep.

Family visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland Avenue Church of Christ.

Mrs. Curtis was born in Florence on December 6,1919, but moved to Selma at an early age. She was educated in Selma schools and attended David Lipscomb College. Mrs. Curtis was a founding and faithful member of the Highland Avenue Church of Christ.

Delia Darden Williams

Services for Delia Darden Williams, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2003, with the Rev. Bruce Dozier Sr. officiating and burial following in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Thornton Giles

Thornton Giles, 88, of Selma, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 13, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Stone officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Wylna “Bill” Giles; brother-in-law, Walter Rosene Jr. of Daphne; sister-in-law, Justine Giles of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Walter Rosene, J.V. Oakes, Archie Reeves, Brock Wells, Doug Griffin and Mallory Reeves.

Family visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. on Saturday, at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mr. Giles served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a cattle farmer with his father for many years in Dallas County. He was also a life long member of First Presbyterian Church in Selma.

Trudy Inez Smith Owens

Trudy Inez Smith Owens, 77, of Camden, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday. December 11, at Camden Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Crawford and the Rev. Mike Maloy officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include brothers and sisters, Mary Ellen Stacey of Beatrice, Ollie Virginia McPherson and Woodrow Smith (Helen) of Mobile, Wayland Smith (Mary Nell), Verla Pongerayter (Mitchell) and Willie Mae Campbell (Don) all of Camden, and Jewel Flowers (Ernest) of Nashville, Tenn.; and nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Ray Felts, Mike Pongerayter, Kenneth Smith, David Smith, Todd Flowers and Winton McPherson.

Mrs. Owens was a member of Lydia Sunday school class of Camden Baptist Church.
