Trinity 49

The Souhside Panthers came from behind late in the fourth quarter to defeat the Trinity Wildcats 52-49. With the win the Panthers evened their record to 12-12 on the year, and will play Central Coosa for the area championship Tuesday night.

The Panthers came out of the gate strong and looked as if they would run away with the game, but the Wildcats rallied in the second quarter to tie the game at the half.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats’ big man got in foul trouble, and it was just what the Panthers needed to take the lead with two minutes left to play.

The Panthers were led by Nelson Waters with 15 points. Calvin Macmillan had a big night for the Panthers, putting up 12 points in the contest. Cedrick Brown came through big with seven points.

Wilcox Academy 63, South Choctaw 45

The Wilcox Academy Wildcats picked up their first win of the area tournament Thursday night, defeating South Choctaw 63-45.

The Wildcats trailed by as many as 11 points in the first quarter. At the end of the third quarter the Wildcats were down by three points, but strong fourth quarter shooting helped them pull out the game.

The Wildcats were led by Michael Riggs with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Brad Philpot finished the night with 16 points.

Lanier 65,

Selma High 60

The Varsity Saints dropped the first round of the semi final round Saturday night, losing to Lanier in an intense and close game. The Saints’ record for the year drops to 14-13.

Scoring for the Saint’s was handled by Brandon Davis with 16 points and 6 free throws, Miguel Harris with 13 points, Jai Miller with 10 points, and Jarvis Williams with nine points.

Taking care of the points for the Sidney Lanier Poets was Micheal Givan with 16 points, Cortez London with 12 points, and Keon Humphrey with 11 points.

Central Christian 60, Marion Academy 34

The CCA Warriors clinched the first round of the semi-final tournaments Thursday night, defeating Marion Acadmey.

Lead scorers for the Warriors were Javaris Buren with 16 points, Patrick Thomas with 13 points, Jamie Parker with 11 points, and Jerome Deese with 10 points.

MMI 35, Central Christian 30

MMI defeated the Central Christian Warriors Friday night, picking up a win and improving their record to 18-2 for the season.

Handling the ball for Marion were Javoris Smith, who was named tournament MVP, with 14 points, Chad Metzger with 8 points, and Douglas Fitzgerald with four points. Fitzgerald and Metzger were voted all tournament for MMI, and Dr. Michelle Ivey was voted the 1A West Area Boys’ Coach of the Year.

Scoring for the Warriors was handled by Jamie Parker and Javaris Burden, both who were named all-tournament.

CCA’s next game is the State Tournament next Friday at 6:30 in Hundington against Sparta Academy.

Francis Marion 95, Aliceville 29

Francis Marion dominated the game Friday night, in York against Aliceville, maintaning a drastic lead throughout the entire game.

Scoring for Francis Marion was taken care of by Julius Allgood with 20 points, four rebounds, and two steals, Andrew Lee with 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists, Dewayne Wood with 15 points and two assists, Jeremy Arrington with 10 points and six assists, and Bryan Moore, who played an exceptional game despite a sore knee, with 10 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

Francis Marion’s next game is the 3A Area 6 Championship in York Alabama, against Sumter County, at 7.

Meadowview 45, Bessemer 34

The Meadowview Christian Lady Trojans moved one step closer on Friday night to getting the first round seed at the regional tournament, defeating Bessemer 45-34. With the win the Lady Trojans improve their overall record to 20-7.

Leading the way for the Lady Trojans was Haley McIntyre with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Sheena Steward finished the night with eight points, and Danielle Welch had five points. Elise McIntyre had four points and six assists, and Ashton Smith finished with two points.

Jeff Davis 37,

Selma High 25

The Selma High Lady Saints were defeated by Jeff Davis in the semi final round of the area tournament on Friday night 37-35. With the loss the Lady Saints overall record falls to 13-8 on the year.

Keeonya Smiley led the way for the Lady Saints with 11 points. Kimberly Wilson finished the game with 10 points, and Santana Say had nine points in the loss.

Morgan 45,

Fort Dale 39

The Morgan Senators defeated Fort Dale Friday night, adding yet another win to their record, making them 18-4 for the season.

The Senators maintained a lead throughout most of the game, despite a scare in the second half by Fort Dale.

Mallory Jones led the way for the Lady Senators with 13 points and four rebounds. Adding points were Elizabeth Elliot with 10 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, Katie Taylor with seven points and five rebounds, Sarah Wood with five points and 14 rebounds, Laura Whitney Bennett and Ginger Gaines with four points and four rebounds.

The Lady Senators will participate in the Elite 8 championship next Saturday.

Kingwood Christian 42, Meadowview Christian 40

The Lady Trojans could not hold on to the lead Friday night, and dropped their overall standings to 20-8 for the year.

Haley McIntyre led the way for the Trojans with 18 points and seven rebounds. Adding points were Sheena Steward with four points and eight rebounds, Joney Lawerence with six points, Elyse McIntyre with five points, and Ashton Smith, also with five points.

All tournament players for Meadowview were Haley McIntyre and Sheena Steward.

The Trojans’ next game is on Thursday at 1:30 in Hundington against Faith Academy.
