Lowell Aaron Osburn

Funeral services for Lowell Aaron Osburn will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Lawrence Funeral Home with burial at the New Christian Cemetery in Plantersville. Visitation will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m.

Mr. Osburn died on Friday, Nov. 29, following a brief illness. He is survived by sons Steve (Gloria) Osburn of Robertsdale, Mike (Jeronna) and Mark Osburn of Selma; sisters Pat (George) McCullough and Faye (Joe) McKinney of Prattville; brother Allen (Sadie) Osburn of Plantersville; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and former wife and dear friend Jill Worrell.

Pallbearers include Steve Osburn, Mike Osburn, Doug Chandler, Milton Wiggins, Eddie Thornton and Keith McKinney.

Mr. Osburn was born in Chilton County on Sept. 24, 1932. A native of Plantersville, he worked for many years for the Xerox Company in Georgia before returning to Selma, where he retired from the Beech Corporation. He was a longtime resident of Selma and a gentle man who leaves behind, in addition to the relatives listed above, a host of loving friends.

Cournelious Courtland

Cournelious Courtland, 71, of Selma, died on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 1, at 1:30 p.m. at John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fair Lawn cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include wife Mattie Lee Courtland; parents Emanuel and Daisy Courtland; sons Cournelious, Lattied, Lorenzo, John, Sylvester, Nathaniel, Samiel and Alvin; daughters Geneva, Mattie, Emma, Reneva and Carolyn; brothers O’Neal, Willie, Sampson and John; sisters Laura, Lula, Reneva, Henrietta and Alma; 24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sons-in-law; five daughters-in-law; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Courtland’s sons will serve as the pallbearers.

James Ottis Mitchell

James Ottis Mitchell, 74, of Tuscaloosa, died on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in Tuscaloosa.

Services were held Saturday, Nov. 30, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Calvin Strickland presiding and Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.

Survivors include sister Joyce M. Ingersoll of Bossier, City, La. and sister-in-law Evelyn Mitchell of Selma, along with a number of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers include Lynn Terrell, Randy Mitchell, Stewart Mitchell, Roger Fuller, Donald Creel and Walter Edwards.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Church.

Nathaniel Burrell

Nathaniel Burrell, 71, of Demopolis, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. in New Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis with the Rev. E.C. Clemons pastor and Rev. Sid Rowser officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors directing.

Hazel Matthews

Hazel Matthews, 58, of Demopolis, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. from Larkin & Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Demopolis with the Rev. Mitchell Congress officiating. Interment will follow in John the Baptist Cemetery in Gallion with Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors directing.
