CCA comes up a little short

The Central Christian Warriors have absolutely nothing to hang their heads about, even though they lost their semi-final game to SMCA Friday night 34-28. They have achieved more this year than anyone ever thought they would including winning the first Region Championship in school history.

SMCA got on the board first Friday night on a 16 yard touchdown run by Patrick Ming. The ensuing extra point was good, and the score stood 7-0.

It didn’t take the Warriors long to even things back up though. Javaris Burden rumbled down the field 62 yards to set up a 1 yard touchdown run by C.K. Poe. C.A. Poe added the extra point, and the Warriors tied the game 7-7.

SMCA wasn’t ready to lay down and give up at that point though. On their next possession Ryne RIals hooked up with Chase Ingram on a 80 yard pass play that resulted in a touchdown for SMCA. The extra point sailed through the uprights and SMCA regained the lead 14-7.

Central Christian got back in the game at with 3:32 left to play in the first half when Simuel Walker punched the ball into the end zone from 1 yard out. C.A. Poe added the extra point and the Warriors tied the game 14-14.

SMCA wasn’t content to run the clock out before half-time though. With :44 left in the first half Rials found Ingram in the end zone for the 18 yard touchdown. The extra point was good, and SMCA took a 21-14 lead into the locker room at half time.

Not content with a seven point lead SMCA came out after half time, and scored on their opening possession. SMCA picked up their fourth touchdown of the night on a five yard run. The extra point was good, and SMCA took a 28-14 lead.

The Warriors picked up their third touchdown of the night with 2:10 left in the third quarter. C.K. Poe found C.A. Poe on the six yard touchdown pass. C.A. Poe the added the extra point to pull the Warriors within seven.

Central managed to tie the game with 6:29 left in the fourth quarter when Burden picked up the touchdown on a 2 yard run. C.A. Poe then added the extra point, and the score stood 28-28.

SMCA got back on top with 2:42 left to play in the game on a pass from Rials to Chip Ranson that covered 10 yards and resulted in a SMCA touchdown. The extra point was blocked by C.A. Poe, and SMCA took a six point lead 34-28.

With under 2:00 left to play in the game the Warriors were unable to get back into the end zone, and SMCA took the game 34-28.

Offensive leaders for the Warriors were Burden with 23 carries for 150 yards, and C.K. Poe had 116 yards passing.

The defensive leader for the Warriors was Jamie Parker who had seven tackles and one assist.
