Joyce Kendrick was once told that if you do good deeds, then angels will walk in the door to help you.

Kendrick, executive director of the Jonathan Daniels Community Development Center, received a visit from one of those angels on Tuesday.

Edward McCurdy, president of AmSouth Bank in Selma, and Paul Carruthers, vice president of regional community development for AmSouth, presented the Jonathan Daniels CDC with a check for $5,000 to help with the center’s projects.

Carruthers said that AmSouth is very supportive of groups such as Jonathan Daniels CDC.

The Jonathan Daniels CDC is dedicated to rebuilding the neighborhoods of Selma. It was incorporated in the fall of 1999 as a non-profit organization.

Saturday, the center held a health fair at the new East Selma pond. They can also look forward to a visit by a summer youth workcamp made from junior and senior high school students from all faiths from all over the country coming to Selma for a week in June to help in neighborhood cleanup and repair.

And every little bit helps. The CDC has seen what good they’ve done in the community so far. When the pond in East Selma opened in August, they expected around 100 people to come out. More than 400 came instead.

The strong feedback from the community has kept this group going.
