Alice Smith

Alice Smith, of Selma, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at a local nursing home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Sandridge Baptist Church, River Rd., with the Rev. Milton Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include five sons, Otis Smith, Henry Smith, George Smith, Clarence Smith and Earnest Smith all of Selma; two daughters, Ann Smith of Selma and Doshie (Robert) Tanner of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Robert Tanner Jr. of Dallas, Texas and Latisha

Campbell of Selma; one great-grandchild, Laniya Campbell of Selma; and her favorite niece, Cassandra Allen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben Smith, her brother, Henry Nicks, two sons, Ben Smith Jr. and Willie Smith and her sister, Annie Ruth Jones.

Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 8, 1916 in Dallas County to George and Doshie Taylor. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She later joined her husband in uniting with Sandridge Baptist Church in 1936 under the leadership of Rev. Tom McCant and served faithful until her death. She married Ben Smith in 1936.

William Martin

William Martin, 73, of Tuscaloosa, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. F. D. Reese officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Bettye C. Martin; one son, William Marcellus Martin Jr.; one daughter, Blanche Denise Martin; one sister, Amelia M. Mitchell; one grandchild, Nakia Shania Martin-Wright; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and four nieces.

Active pallbearers are family and friends.

Walter Kelly Sanders Jr.

Walter Kelly Sanders Jr., 76, of Camden died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at a Montgomery hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Camden Church of God with the Rev. Wayne Shepherd and the Rev. James Lovell officiating. Burial will follow in Camden Cemetery with Dunklin Herndon Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Elaine (Willie G.) Pearson of Camden; son and daughter-in-law, William Alvin (Jane) Sanders of Wetumpka; four grandchildren, Scott Sanders, James Kelly Pearson, Pharr and Aliceson Williams; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Baxley of Montgomery and Katherine Edson of Birmingham; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Camden Church of God, Camden, AL.

Clifford Mays Sr., 48, of Detroit, Mich.,, formerly of Boligee, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Detroit, Mich.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Christian Valley Baptist Church, Boligee with the Rev. Curtis Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor Place Cemetery, Boligee, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

L. C. Webb

L. C. Webb, 64, of Dollarhide Community, Boligee, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at his home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Matthew Watson Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Lucinda Hunter

Lucinda Hunter, of Scotsboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 in Scotsboro.

Leola “Red Mama” Simmons, 99, of Lowndes County, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at Clover Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. John E. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.
