Betty Jay Pugh

Betty Jay Pugh, 96, of Selma, died Thursday, November 6, 2003.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8, at New Live Oak Cemetery with Father Mark Vincent officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and a host of friends that loved and took care of her.

Honorary pallbearers are employees of Wiregrass Hospice.

Family visitation will be from10 -11 a.m. on Saturday, at Selma Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wiregrass Hospice.

Mrs. Pugh was a member of Valley Grande Baptist Church.

Ida Marshall

Woods Ford

Ida Marshall Woods Ford, 94, of Selma, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at a

local nursing home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Dr. Ron Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Old Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include nieces and nephew, Annie Woods Stanley of Pensacola, Fla., Mary Woods Epp of Marion Jct., Katherine Louise Woods Needs of Albuquerque, N.M. and William P. Woods Jr. of Ellensburg, Wash.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ford was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Selma Country Club, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Power Squadron, First Presbyterian Church and Valley Creek Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin on the family farm at Ocmulgee Creek with her husband Frank. She especially enjoyed summers at the cabin helping to raise her numerous nieces and nephews.

James Broadnax

James Broadnax, 83, of Birmingham, formerly of Autaugaville, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003, in Birmingham.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Greater Mallard Chapel in Autauga County, with the Rev. James Cooke officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Janie B. (Earl) Rose of Macon, Ga.; one sister, Amelia Broadnax of Autauga County; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Cook.

Active pallbearers are family and friends.

Ella Mae Byrd

Ella Mae &uot;Squirrel&uot; Byrd, 77, of Sardis, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 9, at Shady Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. B.A. Scott officiating and Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include, three daughters, Laura Mae Hall of Sardis, Harriet Augusta Byrd of Chicago, Ill., and Annie Mary (Henry) Blevins; four sons, George Edward Byrd, Jesse Lewis (Marsha) Byrd of Chicago, Ill., Leroy (Mattie)Byrd and Roosevelt (Loretta) Byrd of Selma; one sister, Ethel Mae Bell; one brother, John Oscar Byrd; one sister-in-law, Adell Marzette Byrd; 35 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a hot of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Three special friends, Annie Mae Walker, Charlie Mae Milhouse and Earnest Sheppard. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wes and Harriet Byrd, a sister, Clydia Dailey; and one brother, Houston Byrd.

Johnny Wilson

Johnny Wilson, 84, of Selma, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at a Veteran hospital in Montgomery. Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 8, at New Bethany Baptist Church in Sardis, with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Mildred Watts Hale

Mildred &uot;Sister Bae&uot; Watts Hale, 63, died Thursday, October 30, 2003, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8, at Shiloh M.B. Church, Cahawba Rd., Orrville, with the Min. Shirley Garner and the Rev. Alex Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Watts Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two brothers, Rev. Alex Watts of Selma and William Clifton of Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are nephews.

Veronica Hardy

Veronica Hardy, 23, of Selma, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, November 7, at Ellwood Community Church with the Rev. Gary Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her parents, Carrie Bradley and Michael Hardy; one daughter, Kenndi Shaunta Hardy; and two sisters, Alicia Hardy and Kayla Jones.

Sadie Bell

Sadie Bell, 89, of Selma, died Thursday, November 6, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Jessie Boyles Huggins

Jessie Boyles Huggins, 83, of Selma, formerly of Evergreen, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at her home.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen, with the Rev. Joel Jones and Rev. Al Finch officiating and Cope Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Boone and son-in-law, Walter Boone of Selma; and three special friends, Susie McDole, Linda McDonald and Rosie McDonald all of Selma.

Family visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Cope Funeral Home.

Millard Bennett Jr.

Millard Bennett Jr., 63, of Dallas County, died Sunday, November 2, 2003 at

his home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 8, at Little Canaan P.B. Church with Elder James Beal officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Marion Jct.

Survivors include his wife, Queen Bennett; seven sons, Millard Bennett III, Daniel Bennett, Theodore Bennett, Johnny Bennett, Donald Bennett, Terry Bennett and Herman Gaines.; four daughters, Linda Angrim, Anna James, Janet Bennett and Shelia Hatcher; four brothers, George Sr., Matthew, Eugene and Ernest Bennett; four sisters, Nancy Bennett, Dianne Bennett, Mary Fails, Barbara Brooks; 26 grandchildren; Three great grandchildren; four son-in-laws; two daughter-in laws; eight sister-in-laws; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Lee Coachman.

Douglas Benson, 73, of Hayneville, died Thursday, October 30, 2003.

Survivors include her mother, Lee Ester Young; her husband, Terry Jackson; three children, Teresa (Kenneth Jr.) Smith-Bell, Earl (Gwen) Ford of Montgomery, Eric (Jerry D.) Smith of Hayneville; five sisters, Lee Ella (John) Carter, Janice (Willie) Donerlson of Montgomery, Dorothy (Johnnie) Gipson of Letohatchee, Emma (Willie) Hayes, Lillie Ann (Lenard) Hare of Calhoun; five brothers, Lucious (Corine) Young Jr., Willie (Gloria) Young, Robert (Jellean) Young of Letohatchee, Clarence (Emma) Young and Ben Davis of Montgomery; 11 special grandchildren, Edaniel, Demetrius, Demetric, Kenneth III, Ashanti, Breanna, Jonathan, Deshon, Mance, Tymira, Deidria (Perry); and a host of loving and sweet nieces, nephews and other relatives. A very special person, Dora Jordan. Ms. Smith was born of Aug. 22, 2949 to Lee Ester Young and the late Lucious Young.

McKinley Parker Jr.

McKinley &uot;Billy&uot; Parker Jr., 70, of Selma, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 in Atlanta, Ga.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 8, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. A. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his former wife, Louise (James) Stokes of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Steve Parker of Chicago, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Wanda Kelly of Minnesota; three sisters, Barbara (Arthur) Jones of Selma, Betty (Ramalis) Miles of Memphis, Tenn., and Irma Parker of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Charles (Mary Alice) Parker of Chicago, Ill.; a special nephew, McKinley (Martell) Parker III of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; three special friends, Aaliyaa Muhannad of Chicago, Ill., Malissa Craig and George (Buster) Williams of Selma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, McKinley Parker Sr. and Mildred Parker, two sisters, Ruth Robinson, Mildred Parker, three children, Larry Parker, Kelly Parker and Lanell Parker.

Active pallbearers are nephews and friends.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home from 1-5 p.m. with family visitation following from 6-7 p.m.

Flowerbearers are nieces, family and friends.

Mr. Parker attended R.B. Hudson High School and served four years in the United States Air Force. He lived a life full of kindness and thoughtfulness.
