Looking Back

We are at the end of another season of high school football. Some of the area teams are getting ready to begin post season play after this week. Others are already trying to figure out how to have a better season next year.

Myself along with everyone out there should be very proud of some of the area teams. Dallas County has had an outstanding year, and they are playoff bound. Central Christian Academy won their first Region Championship in school history this year, and they are also play-off bound, and have clinched home field advantage through out. Morgan Academy has had a good year, and are play-off bound. Wilcox Academy has gone 8-1 this year, and are also headed to the playoffs.

There have been other schools out there who have good years, and teams out there whose seasons seem to go nowhere. MMI has picked up a couple of wins this year for the first time in three years. Meadowview Christian has had a down year, but they are building for the future. Keith has had some breaks go their way at times, but have fell short at other times. So truthfully everyone should be proud of the area teams for what they have been able to accomplish this year, wether they made the playoffs or not. Remember everyone these are kids, and at this age having fun is supposed to be what matters anyway.

Now it has come to my attention that some people have felt slighted about the coverage that their favorite football team’s have received in the Selma Times Journal this year. Well, in being a Selma native, and enjoying high school football just as much as the next person I feel that I have done a good job at being as fair to the all the area teams as possible. With the sports department consisting of just myself, and a photographer it has been difficult to make it out to every school in the area this year. I have been fortunate enough to catch all of the schools in the Selma vicinity, and the others when they came to town to play. Now with 12 area schools that we cover here at the paper it is impossible to get everyone on the front page of the sports section every Sunday, but I have tried as much as possible to rotate schools out so everyone got the chance to see their team out front this season when possible. So if anyone out there feels slighted in anyway I am sorry, but in the long run I think I was more than fair with every team in the area this year.

Now to end this on a good note, I would like to thank everyone out there who has contributed to this season of football coverage, and wish all the playoff bound teams good luck.
