Brenda Ghant Chapman

Brenda Ghant Chapman, 52, of Dallas County, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002 at a local hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Potter’s Station, with the Rev. Thomas J. Patterson and Rev. D. M. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Smith’s Family Cemetery in Orrville with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Chapman Jr. of Selma; one son, Joseph Chapman III (Billie) of Selma; one daughter, Barbara D. Chapman; five brothers, Allen (Elizabeth) Ghant, Daniel (Rosalyn) Ghant and James A. (Doris) Ghant all of Selma, Charles (Valerie Ghant of Texas, Walter (Mary) Ghant of Beloit; four sisters, Macie Ghant of Birmingham, Sarah (Beyonza) Jackson and Louise (James) Cleveland all of Selma and Lula Jones of Montgomery; four grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; three brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews; and a special niece, Debra Cleveland-Miree.

Active pallbearers are Clyde Lewis, Karl Lewis, David Cleveland, James Cleveland Jr., Alfred Sturdivant, Donald Ghant and Shedrick Ghant.

Honorary pallbearers are Maurice Dixon, Tracey Lewis and Willie Ghant.

Neomi Brown Crawford

Neomi Brown Crawford, 80 of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Dillon, S.C., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002.

Services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Floydale, S.C.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, at Rivercliff Lutheran Church in Atlanta, Ga., with Community Memorial Funeral Home in Lumpkin, Ga. directing

Survivors include Barbara (Fitzgerald) Leach of Dillion, S.C., Betty Joyce Vandroff of Long Beach, Calif., Leon (Vera) Holloway of Riverdale, Ga., Lelia (Kenneth) Reynolds of Long Beach, Calif., Gaston (Gwen) Holloway of Hampton, Ga., Edith (Dr. Wilton) Heyliger of Atlanta, Ga., and Pastor Nathaniel (Mary) Holloway of Sardis.

Ellar Mae Smitherman

Ellar Mae Smitherman, 90, of Maplesville, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church #2, with the Rev. Tony Burnett and the Rev. Pat Hughins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her sons, Howard Hammond, Charles Edward Smitherman, Tommy Smitherman and Johnny Smitherman all of Maplesville; daughters, Pat Freeman of McComb, Miss., Ina Scott of Verbena and Lillie Mills of Selma; one brother, Mitchell Braswell of Jayess, Miss; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
