Polly Bennett

Polly Bennett, 81, died Sunday, October 12, 2003.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2003, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Gastonburg, with the Rev. Robert Mack officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Christian Memorial Funeral Home of Camden directing.

Survivors include her loving husband, Mark Bennett; one son, Rufus (Minnie) Austin Sr. of Mobile; two grandchildren, Diane (Raymond) Clark of Orrville and Rufus (Minnie)

Austin Jr. of Mobile; four great-grandchildren, Latonya Clark of Orrville, Ashley, Erica and Brittney all of Mobile; nine sisters; six brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Michael Foster, and two brothers.

Active pallbearers are friends of the family.

Flowerbearers are friends of the family.

Repast will be at the church.

Mrs. Bennett, was born on Sept. 27, 1922 the late Mr. and Mrs. Minnifield and Mary Mooney in Wilcox. She confessed Christ at an early age ad joined Macedonia Baptist Church. She was the president of the Usher Board for several years. She was married to Mark Bennett.

Nellie Mae Walters

Nellie Mae Walters, 89, of Selma, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Woodruff officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include nephews Andrew (Rose Mary) DeRamus of Selma, Gordon (Roseanne) DeRamus of Huntsville, Harold &uot;Bub&uot; (Betty) Walters of Ft. Walton, Fla., Alvin DeRamus Jr. of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Lloyd DeRamus of Selma; nieces, Ada (Jim) Kelly of Ft. Walton, Fla., Mae (Lindsay) Bell of Bay Minette and Elizabeth Jatko of Lilburn, Ga.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Active pallbearers are Andrew DeRamus, Dexter DeRamus, Sidney DeRamus, Lloyd DeRamus, Harold Walters and Mark Kelly.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Barbara Jean Johnson

Barbara Jean Johnson, 54, of Selma, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at a Montgomery hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. October 18, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Dr. George Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her two daughters, Surayyah (Matthew) Abdullah

of Mobile and Latortia Johnson of Selma; and special cousin, Ann Barley.

Ruth Messer Cooper

Ruth Messer Cooper, of Birmingham, formerly of Selma, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, in Birmingham.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, at Barrett Road United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Ryan and the Rev. Cecil Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Claude Miller Cooper Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Virginia Cooper Downes of Birmingham and Sue Cooper Huffman and husband, W. George Huffman of Hickory, N.C., and adopted daughter, Jeanne Jatko Blackwell and husband Gaines Blackwell of Auburn; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Claude Miller Cooper.

Active pallbearers are Cosby Carmichael, Gordon Gibbs, Robert Love, Roy McLaughlin, Pettus Suttle and Gerald Thrasher.

Family visitation will at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

Mrs. Cooper, was born on Dec. 28, 1910, in Clanton.

Dorothy Lee Motley

Dorothy Lee &uot;Bonney&uot; Motley, 59, of Jones, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at a Montgomery hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at Lily Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. A. D. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include parent, Mary F. Peat; two sons John d. Motley Sr. and Milton L. Motley; two brothers, Charlie Peat Jr. and Willie Peat; two sisters, Lillie Mae Howard and Mary Nell Peat; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Scotty Motley.

Essie Williams, 72, of Greensboro, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at a Greensboro healthcare facility.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Greensboro, with the Rev. Nathaniel Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery , Greensboro, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.
