Willie J. Lawrence

Willie J. Lawrence, 49, of Selma, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 in Selma.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Abundant Life Church with Pastor Etta Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include five brothers, Eddie Lawrence, James Lawrence, Robert Lawrence all of Selma, Rushell Lawrence of Buford, S.C., and Chester Lawrence of Kansas; six sisters, Cora Walker of Selma, Lenora Rudolph of Moss, Dolly M. Grimes of Montgomery, Kelly M. Larry of Clearwater, Fla., Maggie Smith of Selma and Hattie Lawrence of Pleasant Hill; and 67 nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Eddie Lawrence, Chester Lawrence, James Lawrence, Robert Lawrence, Lee Andrew Ackron and West Marshall III.

Alice Hines Tucker

Alice Hines Tucker, 60, of Selma, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Fairlawn Memory Garden Cemetery with the Rev. James Jones officiating and J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Tucker of Huntsville; one brother, Lorenzo Hines of Maryland; three sisters, Juanita Jones of Selma, Ethel Jones (James) of Montgomery and Eva Leslie (Andrew) of Montgomery; two brothers-in-law; three nieces; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Hines.

The family extend special thanks to the Staff at Dunn Nursing Home for all the care and kindness shown to their loved one.

Buena Lawson Stone

Buena Lawson Stone, 93, of Sprott, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at a Marion nursing home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Sonny Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.

Survivors include one son, Robert H. Stone (Shirley) of Gallion; five daughters, Elnora Hamilton of Mobile, Lillian Singleton (Charles) of Selma, Carolyn Brunson of Marion Jct., Sybil Lynch (Bill of Weston, Fla., and Hazel Brewer (David) of Brandon, Miss.; three sisters, Verna Rutherford of Marion Linnie Stone and Ruthie Larson both of Selma; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are John Lewis Morgan III, Robert L. Morgan, Wayne Stone, Ernie L. Stone, Scott Hamilton and Winston Stone.

Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, at Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion.

Louise Lewis Matlock

Louise Lewis Matlock, 89, of Merritt Island, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Selma.

Survivors include her son, Paul D. Lewis Jr., daughter-in-law Betty; two grandsons, Douglas III and Michael; and two great-grandsons; one sister, Lucille Yow and two nieces.

Mrs. Matlock attend St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockledge, Fla. She was born in Selma and was married to her childhood sweetheart, the late Paul D. Lewis Sr. for 40 years, he preceded her in death in 1973. She later married the late Edward Matlock.

Charles Colburn Moore Jr.

Charles Colburn Moore Jr., 75, of Sylacauga, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at a hospital in Foley.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Curtis and Son North Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Henderson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Curtis and Sons North Chapel directing.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Bill Moore of Sylacauga; one daughter, Rebecca Moore Davis and husband Monty of Selma; two sisters, Virginia Jones and Ardith Densmore both of Birmingham; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Davis of Selma.

Active pallbearers are Matt Hare, Barry Curtis, Todd Rawlinson, Sam Wright, Steve Sprayberry, Jimmy Curtis, Lister Proctor and Larry Tankersley.

Honorary pallbearers are L. P. Hickman, Wayne Ham, Bill Edwards, Clyde Machen, Larry Cardwell and Ronnie Abrams.

Mr. Moore retired from Kimberly-Clark with over 35 years of Service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Vivian M. Curry

Vivian M. Curry, 90, of Camden, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at a Camden nursing home.

Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Camden Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Green officiating. Burial followed in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery in Grampion Hills.

Survivors include three sonsm, William Vaiden Curry (Sister), James Dickery Curry (Jacque) both of Camden and Joe Wallace Curry (Pat) of Dothan; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Curry.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Enon Baptist Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 575, Camden AL 36726.

Mrs. Curry was affectionately known as &uot;Miss Vivian&uot;, was a beloved member and former secretary of Camden Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Alabama Charter Chapter #36, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Dalton Hugh Arthur

Dalton Hugh &uot;Bill&uot; Arthur, 76, of Clanton, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at a Alahaster hospital.

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, October 14, at Lime Spring Methodist Cemetery with Billy Helms officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nell Arthur of Clanton; son, Larry Little of Clanton; one daughter, Lynn Dennis of Jemison; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandsons, Dakota Downing, Gavin Wilson, Walker Motley, Thomas Nichols, Will Hoyt and Rob Hoyt.

Jessie Leonard Pope

Jessie Leonard Pope, 81, of Arlington, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2002, at his home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Chapel of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce E. LaVan and the Rev. Wilson Smack officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel UMC Cemetery, Dixon Mills, with O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Hone directing.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Bolen Pope, of Arlington; daughter, June (George) Pope Traweek of Fayette; two sons, Larry (Ellen) Pope and Barry (Brenda) Pope; two brothers, Howard Pope and T. J. Pope both of Dixon Mills; three sisters, Olna Wright of Butler, Dot Siniard and Gwen Ayers both of Dallas Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are Herbie Bethea, Frank Bolen, Jerry Bolen, Lester Bolen, Mickey Pope, Stuart Pope and alternate, Donnie Wright.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John C. Clay, Dr. T.B. Darji, Staff of Hospice South, Henry Jordon, Joe Lewis, Phillip Sims and Tommy Joe Sims and Stanley Wade.

Mr. Pope was a member of Arlington UMC, but attend Pine Hill Church of God. He was a veteran of the Magnolia Civic Club and the Wilcox County Historical Society. He was also a WWII veteran having served from Normandy Beach to Berlin.

Willie M. Buster

Willie M. Buster, 56, of Selma, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at his home.
