Southside takes on Central Coosa this week after their big fourth-quarter win last week against Tallassee.

The Panthers are looking to extend the streak to two, and Central Coosa is just looking for a win. Central Coosa dropped their game against St. James last week in a defensive battle, losing 3-0.

The win last week was exactly what the Panthers needed to get their season jump-started. They didn’t give up, and they did what it took at the end of the game to get the win.

The Panthers did what I have been saying they were going to do all year. They went to the running game, and used their defense to keep them in the game. Tony Myles picked up 102 yards for the Panthers last week.

Look for them to stay with what won the game for them last week. They will run the ball, and let the defense keep them in the game.

Look for Southside to stay in the game till late in the fourth quarter, and pick the win up late.

Dallas County at Greensboro

What can anyone say about the Dallas County Hornets? They win games, and they win them by phenomenal margins.

Last week the Hornets went on the road, and took on Bibb County, and they won. I am sure there are lots of teams out there that won their games last week, but how many of them can say they won by 63 points. Probably not many of them, and the thing is last week was not a one time thing they have been winning games by huge margins all year.

This week the Hornets are on the road again. This time they are in Greensboro. Greensboro lost their game last week against Fayette County 35-7, and if they aren’t careful they will lose by a lot more than that this week.

The Hornets have looked pretty unstoppable this year, and I don’t see any big opponent on their schedule until they go to play Demopolis in two weeks. Now I am sure that Greensboro will be gunning for the Hornets this week, but it won’t do them much good.

Look for the trio of running backs that the Hornets have to carry the load for them again this week, and the defense will probably be stellar again.

Francis Marion vs. Oak Grove

The Francis Marion Rams are coming off a 14-8 win last week against Aliceville. Oak Grove is also coming off a win they defeated Midfield last week 21-20. Both of these teams will look to continue their winning ways this Friday night. The rams have been off again, and off again all year just like a lot of area football teams.

Francis Marion has let a strong running game carry them all year, and they will probably do the same thing this week. If the Rams can get off to a good start in their game this week they should be able to play with Oak Grove. If they get off to a bad start, this game could get ugly in a hurry.

Selma High vs. Sidney Lanier

The Saints are back at Memorial Stadium again after having a week off to prepare for the Sidney Lanier Poets and their upcoming game Friday night.

The Saints are coming off a big win against Tallassee in their last game, and they did what they did in their win early in the year against Southside. They won the game late in the fourth quarter in dramatic fashion. The bad thing about the two losses that the Saints have put up this year is that the games haven’t even been close.

The Saints have what it takes to be a good football team this year, they just haven’t been able to put it all together at the right time. The last win that they had, and the week off that they had to prepare should give them a little bit of an edge going into the game. The thing is will they be able to use the edge to win the game, or will they flounder out of the gate again and lose another one.

Look for the Saints to try and get a running game going. They will also try to mix in the pass, and use quarterback Jai Miller to all of his ability.

Wilcox Central vs. Escambia County

Wilcox Central has been up and down all season, but they have already surprised a lot of people by actually being able to compete with a very young and inexperienced ball club. This week they take on Escambia County in what should be a good game.

Both teams are coming off losses. Wilcox Central lost to Carroll last week 37-6, and Escambia County lost to Eufaula 55-14. Both of these teams will be trying to get back on the winning side of things come Friday night.

Look for Wilcox Central to try to run the ball, and stay away from the pass as much as possible. If they can accomplish this they will have a decent chance of notching one in the win column.

R.C. Hatch vs. Goshen

Last week was no picnic for Hatch. Their game looked more like a high school basketball score than it did a football score in their loss to Highland Home 81-0. Things won’t get much easier for Hatch this week when they face Goshen. Goshen is a tough team that beat Keith soundly earlier in the year, and they should have little trouble with Hatch.

R.C. Hatch has had trouble all year winning games, and this has been going on for quite a while in Uniontown. One of these years they will get things together, and actually break into the win column, but this won’t be the year. Hatch will lose to Goshen this week in a big way.

Keith vs. Billingsley

The Keith High Bears are coming off a heart breaking loss last week to Calera 17-14.

The Bears seem to be starting to put all the pieces back together. They are finally starting to get everybody back healthy from the devastating loss that they had a few weeks back when they lost three players in a ten minute span. Tim Gaines, one of Keith’s leading rushers, finally got some playing time last week, and should be in good playing condition come Friday’s game.

Look for the Bears to get back to what was winning them games earlier in the year. They should run the ball behind their big offensive line, and that should be enough for them to get where they need to be this week.

Morgan at Cottage Hill

Morgan just keeps on plugging away. They had the one slip a couple of weeks ago in the &uot;monsoon&uot; at Macon East, where weather played the biggest factor in the outcome of the game.

Morgan has relied heavily on their strong running game all year, and there hasn’t been any team that could stop them on a consistent basis yet this year. This week should be no different.

The Senators this week will stick to what got them to the dance. They will run the ball behind that talented offensive line, and they will play stellar defense when it counts. Look for Owen Peak to make a difference in the game with his running ability.

Central Christian at Demopolis

Central Christian had their first slip of the year last week against Edgewood, and nobody can really fault the Warriors. They were playing out of their division, and Edgewood is a very talented and deep football team. This week the Warriors have it a little bit easier. Demopolis has been on the short end of things for most of the year, and it shouldn’t be much different this week.

The Warriors will get back on track this week with the running ability of Simuel Walker and Jarvaris Burden, not to mention the throwing ability of C.K. Poe. The Defensive ability has been there for CCA all year (except for last week), this week should be no different.

Look for CCA to come out and get started in a hurry, and Demopolis should never be able to recover.

Meadowview Christian vs. Clarke Prep

The Trojans have just not been able to get everything put together this year, and it has showed in their performance. They are winless for the year, but they have been able to play some decent football at times. This week they take on a very strong Clarke Prep team that has performed well all season.

The lack of experience and depth has been the Trojans downfall all year, and it will probably let them down again this week. The Trojans just won’t have what it takes to play with Clarke prep for an entire game, and the score will show it in the end.

Wilcox Academy at Escambia

Wilcox Academy proved last week that they are a team to be reckoned with. They upset a undefeated, and top ranked team in Monroe Academy. They also broke Monroe’s 18 game winning streak.

The Wildcats are playing Escambia this week, and should have little trouble deposing them. Last week Phillip Merryman had 213 rushing yards on 13 attempts and two touchdowns, and look for lots of the same this week against Escambia. This team just will not be denied their shot at the playoffs, and this a testament to their coaching staff, because they are playing with mostly underclassmen.

Look for the Wildcats to run, and run some more as they roll over Escambia in a big way.

Marion Military Institute at Warrior

The Tigers have played good ball all year, and the result has been that they finally got in the win column for the first time in three years. They have not only done it once, but twice. This week the Tigers take on Warrior, and they would like to notch one more in the win column.

The Tigers have managed to run the ball well all year, and look for them to try and establish the run game again this week. If they can establish the run they will be able to play with Warrior, and possibly walk away with the win.
